WTF
WTF: That’s My Line!
Posted by Kevin Carr (kevin@filmschoolrejects.com) on July 23, 2008

With all the hype last week about The Dark Knight and the upcoming buzz about Comic-Con this week, I’m taking a nod from the Hollywood studios and doing a bit of counter-programming. Instead of weighing the virtues of the new Batman film or gushing over soon-to-be-heard details about movies like The Watchmen, I am training my inner rage on Jennifer Cady.
“Who is Jennifer Cady?” you may ask. Well, chances are you may not recognize her name, but you will probably recognize her stories and headlines that feed into the Yahoo News entertainment hot sheet. She’s a uberblogger from the E! Online’s UK branch.
Cady’s work first came to my attention last week when she ranted about how Vanessa Anne Hudgens was straddling boyfriend Zac Efron (dubbed by Cady “Zefron,” like he’s in a relationship with himself) on the beach and how scandalous this was. Get real, Cady. Like your precious Zefron didn’t appreciate those cell phone snaps that Vahudgens sent him last year.
Later this week, Cady recounted a story about how Disney tween sensation Miley Cyrus is pre-emptively swearing off R-rated movies to keep her reputation squeaky clean. Not a bad story, unless you happened to read the headline: “Hey Pervs, Miley’s Not Starring in R-Rated Movie Anytime Soon.”
I don’t mind being called a perv when appropriate (and believe me, there are many times when this is appropriate), but I wasn’t the first person to drop the above picture of Cyrus in an online article. Apparently Cady’s out there baiting all of us pervs.
But the final straw was an article Cady wrote earlier this week regarding Maggie Gyllenahaal’s “unforgiveable” choice of a “silky, slouchy jumpsuit” (also pictured above) as her outfit for the London premier of The Dark Knight.
I’m not necessarily defending Gyllenhaal’s outfit, which is quite dreadful. After all, it’s not uncommon to see a celebrity in a hideous fashion faux pas. Rather, what cheesed me off was Cady’s choice of headlines: “WTF Are You Wearing, Maggie Gyllenhaal?”
WTF?… What the fuck?
I could claim that I created the web phrase WTF like Al Gore created the internet, but I won’t. I can, however, claim credit for a weekly column of this name. And I’d like to think that Jennifer Cady’s cavalier use of the phrase as her artile’s title proves that she’s an avid reader of FilmSchoolRejects, is jealous of my success and is currently stalking me.
I suppose I could be wrong. But mark my words… one of these days, Jennifer Cady is going to be Googling herself (not in that sense, pervs!) and will stumble across this article.
And maybe that will cause her to say again… WTF?

CARR!
We were doing WTF, weekly, on Strong Words before you had this column. Not one bit of thanks our way, though. Now excuse me, I have to go Google myself in exactly the way you did not mean.

I was hoping you’d respond, Radde. You are right that Strong Words was doing a WTF segment first. You fell right into my trap. I was bating you. Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
I still think Jennifery Cady is stalking me, though. Who can’t resist a slice of the Carr?
