WTF
WTF: My Name Is Sharon

It’s not unheard of for world news and politics to cross over into the entertainment industry. But one thing is for certain… when it happens, you can find some celebrity in the middle of the whole thing making an absolute ass out of himself or herself.
The latest moronic statement on the world news scene comes from Sharon Stone at the Cannes Film Festival, weighing in on the disastrous 7.9 level earthquake in the Sichuan province of China that killed more than 68,000 people and left another 5 million people homeless earlier this month.
It’s not the first time a celebrity has brought this up. In fact, actress Zhang Ziyi chided the attendees of the festival for not even being aware of the event. Ultimately, I have no beef with Ziyi. She had every right to be upset.
But Sharon Stone… that’s a different story.
During a red-carpet interview with Hong Kong’s Cable Entertainment News, Stone said the following:
I’m not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don’t think anyone should be unkind to anyone else…. And then this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and then I thought, is that karma? When you’re not nice that the bad things happen to you?
What the fuck?
Not since Marion Cotillard suggested that 9/11 was a hoax has an actress put her foot this far in her mouth.
First, let’s assume that Stone’s version of karma actually works this way. The whole thing still doesn’t make sense.
Why would karma punish millions of innocent peasants, farmers and common folk for the bad decisions of their government hundreds of miles away? What effect would these earthquake victims have on China’s treatment of Tibet? Wouldn’t that be like someone claiming the deadly string of tornadoes in this country is karma getting back at George W. Bush for the war in Iraq?
The international backlash might be pretty significant to Stone. According to the Hollywood Reporter, one of China’s biggest cinema chains has vowed to boycott her films. Of course, that makes no difference in the states considering American audiences have already rejected the 50-year-old Stone as a has-been.
Here’s karma for you… this lady hasn’t had a bona fide hit since 1998’s Antz, and that was just a voice over role. (For those keeping track, her last live-action hit wasn’t since 1995’s Casino.) With a decade of movies that include starring roles in Catwoman, Basic Instinct 2 and Cold Creek Manor, Stone probably should start making her own Earl Hickey list and paying back karma to set her career straight.
In case you were wondering what a true blithering idiot sounds like, check out the interview clip from YouTube (and notice how she claims the Dalai Lama is “a good friend” of hers):
Sound Off: How do you think karma will come back on Sharon Stone?

She’s not as stupid as we think. The purpose of celebrities is to keep their names in the paper, and Stone isn’t getting good roles any more. She’s desperate for attention and media coverage.
Maybe that thing in her mouth wasn’t a foot.

she’s an idiot.
on a side note, i agree with that french lady, i think the moon landing was a hoax. why havn’t we gone back since?or anywhere else for tha matter. given the immense speed of our technological advancement in every other area since the 1960s, dont you think if we able to land on the moon 40 years ago we should be a little more advanced in space technology then we are now? it took them like 10 years to get to the moon, but another 40 and we arn’t much further. shouldn’t there be like space stations on the moom by now? wtf?
