WTF: Indy Doesn’t Like Me

A couple years ago, I was interviewed by Jamie Kennedy for his film Heckler. During the interview, he read me excepts from my review of his cinematic disaster that was Son of the Mask, which was uncomfortable to say the least.

After the filming, I was talking with Jamie in the green closet (considering the size of this, I can’t really call it a green room) of the Jokers Comedy Club in Dayton, Ohio. Jamie assured me that the stars all read their reviews, so I should keep that in mind when I write them.

“Even Al Pacino,” Jamie said. “He reads the stuff too.”

Well, even brilliant minds like Jamie Kennedy get things wrong at times, at least according to WENN and IMDb.com. Recently, WENN reported that at a Cannes press conference, Harrison Ford claims he doesn’t read reviews of his films.

And after a brief moment of tears and wailing on my part, I have to say, what the fuck?

Say it isn’t so, Harry. I thought everyone reads my stuff!

I know you might not want to read the negative reviews that say you’re past your prime and should be at home drinking Ensure and watching the Weather Channel. Or how you don’t want to read the stuffy French film critics reviews from Cannes. But what about the positive reviews from fanboys like me, where I gush all over you like a horny teenager with his prom date?

Ford said, “I suppose it would be interesting, but I don’t read reviews. I don’t want to believe the bad stuff and I don’t want to believe the good stuff. It doesn’t really matter.”

Sure, the fans will read my review. And I have no shortage or people who will hear me spray my opinion over the internet and on the radio. But to not have Harrison Ford, the icon of my youth, refuse to read my work. Well, it’s enough to make me cry.

If Jamie Kennedy can hang on my every word as a film critic, then why not Harrison Ford? Honestly, Harry. Ask yourself: WWJD… What would Jamie do?
