Reject Update: Resident Evil Extinguishes the Competition

Welcome to the REJECT REPORT box office summary where we go through all the box office numbers. Overall, I’d have to say the people over at Screen Gems have to be feeling pretty good. Resident Evil: Extinction made $24 million dollars weekend and was Number One, not a bad showing considering that it is still the month of September and everyone is still staying home. Really, $24 million in September is pretty good. And yes, folks, it is officially fall — summer officially ended on the weekend. Darn it.

In fact, Resident Evil: Extinction did a little better than expected. Good Luck Chuck performed as expected. Also, I notice 3:10 to Yuma is hanging tough at $6,350,000. It may have opened weak, but it isn’t taking huge drops from week to week. It’s getting decent business with good word of mouth helping a lot. It beat out Eastern Promises which went wide this week and made $5.7 mil.

As for that piece of junk Good Luck Chuck, I notice there are people out there (Nikki Finke in particular at Deadline Hollywood Daily) questioning Jessica Alba’s ability to carry a movie. Well, here’s why Jessica Alba can’t carry a movie: SHE’S IN A PIECE OF GARBAGE. Rotten Tomatoes had ranked Good Luck Chuck at 3%. I don’t think Jessica Alba should be criticized for not being able to carry a movie. Instead, she should be commended for taking this lousy flick to second place and $14 million dollars! If she weren’t in that movie at all, they would have made only $3 or $4 million bucks!! If you have a really lousy flick that nobody in his or her right might would be caught dead at, and you want to make your money back, turn to Jessica Alba!

$14 million smackeroos for a 3% Tomatometer flick. I rest my case.

Just think how much money Jessica Alba’s movies would make if they were actually any good, or if she ripped up her no-nudity clauses in her contracts. (Fat chance, you guys.) Clearly, this woman needs to find some Oscar-winning scripts she could star in. Just like what Anne Hathaway, Halle Berry, Jennifer Connelly and all these other hot women have been doing. I mean, look at Jennifer Connelly. She manages to find some movies to appear in which are actually good! And Jennifer even manages to win Oscars! It shouldn’t be that hard to do.
