Box Office: Bodyslam! The Rock takes the Weekend

Well, I told you it would be a race, and it did turn out to be a close one this weekend — and an upset. Confounding most of the prognosticators including myself, The Game Plan finished on top with 22.6 million. So it’s victory for The Rock over The Kingdom, which wound up second. We should have known. The Game Plan had a bigger theater count and went after the kiddie audience Instead I had to use my head and pick The Kingdom to finish first, because of how dumb The Game Plan looked. That’s the last time I use my head in making any more predictions.

This is more proof that kids rule at the box office and that adults don’t like to go to the movies anymore. I mean, what other explanation is there for this result this weekend?! This is just going to encourage Hollywood to make more Game Plan- type stuff instead of movies for the rest of us. That is, if they ever get around to making movies ever again, because, ahem, everyone’s about to go on strike.

Also I notice that Beatles-themed musical flick Across the Universe was tenth. That’s a surprise to me, because that movie was only in 339 theaters. But they must have packed the joint in those 339 theaters, because they made it into the top 10. But then again, it doesn’t take much effort to get into the Top Ten these days. It only takes about a $20 million dollar take to finish first in September, it seems.
