The Sarah Connor Chronicles, FOX, Airs Friday 8/7c
Episode: “Today Is the Day: Part 2” (Season Two, Episode 19)
Synopsis: Jessie, the BSG Sexpot, is still having trouble dealing with the aftermath of killing Riley. She’s weighted down with guilt as we flash back to her time on the S.S. Jimmy Carter with a story that explains why she doesn’t trust the machines. Meanwhile, John Henry is trying to learn more about humanity and the soul from Agent Richard Ellison.
Review: I’ll start off by saying that there were aspects to this episode that I really did enjoy. It wasn’t so much the things that were happening in present day that I enjoyed. Let’s face it, Jessie spent most of her time splashing around a pool, so there wasn’t much excitement there. Rather, I thought the story of her time on the Jimmy Carter was more interesting.
To no one’s big surprise, on the Jimmy Carter, some upstart humans decided to open the box that was obtained by their last mission. Again, to no one’s big surprise, the contents were not cookies. Instead, it was a liquid metal Terminator that took on human form and tried to hide in the ship. Here’s where the story turned into an homage of John Carpenter’s The Thing, only not executed as effectively. Sadly, the story kept coming back to present day for Jessie to splash around in the pool and a poor detective story with both Derek and John trying to discover what really happened.
Still, at least we got some interesting scenes in the submarine as the liquid metal Terminator. A few things came out of this, particularly the fact that the humans on the boat had never encountered this thing before. I’m wondering if this might be the same Terminator that ends up becoming the Garbage Terminator later… or did I miss the obvious references to that one like I did with other “hints” last week?
While I’m still not a big fan of the show, I’m hoping this is a turning point at least for the moment. Less moping and more Terminating!
Up Next: We welcome Charlie the Medic back into the fold, with a network promise that someone will die in the upcoming episode.
