Eloise was about 17 in 1954, which makes her 40 in 1977. I think it could have been a make-up disaster to try to make the 1954 Ellie look 40.

I think what Adam was asking is why was there a different actress for YOUNG Eloise, as in different than the one we saw in Jughead.

I'm pretty sure they had flashed into the 1950's during Jughead, and the fresh-faced late teens/early 20's actress that we saw then wouldn't look like that 25 years later in 1977, so they hired an older actress.

Making men look younger by giving them a more youthful haircut seems to fly (ala Ben in the flashback of stealing Alex), but trying to use make-up to make a 20 year old woman look 40-45 rarely works well.

I don't particularly like Kate's character. She's a cipher when it comes to her desires or motivations. However, I really like Evangeline Lilly (she's beautiful), so I always look forward to seeing the character.

I guess they could of had a 70 year old woman dressed and made up to look younger, just like they did with the actor for Charles Widmore. But my guess, is that they may need a younger actress to play Elois for two reasons: Because they want another pretty face on screen and they may need her to do more strenuous actions on screen later.
