Remember that Dominic (as imprinted in Victor) blurted out "Whiskey" before Topher wiped him. At the time, it was alleged he just wanted a drink. But any viewer who knew the military alphabet realized that Whiskey could be the designation of an Active, and of course that possibility was confirmed in this episode, so we have to wonder: What was the Dominic personality really trying to say? Was he simply pointing out the link between Whiskey and Alpha, or was there something more to it?

I suspect that the Whiskey body bears some relationship to the personality they put into Sierra, which seemed to be a childhood friend or sibling of Topher's. Maybe Whiskey's original persona was Topher's sister, who needed to be put on the shelf as a result of some trauma or mental dysfunction, and who is reactivated every year on her birthday. Anyway, it is clear that there are several interesting mysteries to solve in the upcoming season, which I hope lasts long enough to address them all.

I think Dr. Saunders hating Topher comes from Whiskey. I think she's evolving too.

Poor Sierra. I'd hope that's one instance where an Active really doesn't remember the experience. I'd love to see some resolution to that though, the man (or men) who put her in the Dollhouse, getting what's coming to them. And also, how the Dollhouse goes about accepting people in those circumstances? Adelle's said time and time again they're all volunteers... does she truly believe that or does she *sometimes* make exceptions?

As for the script I've written, I have completed it. It's a first draft and upon re-reading, noticed a couple of things I need to fix. Only the small things that can be cleared up with a line of dialogue in a couple of places, so nothing major. One thing I'll say about it, if you're reading on a technical note, is that it's not completely professional. There's far too much description in the action sequences than I would normally write. But, I kinda figured that if people were reading it online (and especially for those first time screenplay readers), it would help them better understand some things if there was a little bit more direction (seeing as though I don't have actors to help me portay certain things).

Anywho, the script is here: <a href="http://bluemcgee.webs.com/Dollhouse.S02E01.pdf" target="_blank">http://bluemcgee.webs.com/Dollhouse.S02E01.pdf</a>

I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. It's not perfect and could do with a revision or two, but that's always the way. Can't improve it unless there's feedback. I'm currently writing a second episode which focuses on Whiskey, and how she came to be in the Dollhouse. But that's for another time! Thanks so much, if you manage to get through the whole 58 pages!

...stupid length limits. Anyway!

As for Topher and Saunders, I think Topher definitely felt guilt over the Doctor's death, but it seems to extend more to Whisky than to the doctor himself. Possibly Topher blamed himself for not seeing that Alpha was a danger, maybe he had previous attachments to Whisky (seriously, at this point I'm planning on going back and re-examining every scene with this pair in it so that I can figure this out!) and maybe Whisky was exaggerating about her being programmed to hate him. However, after rewatching that part, Topher seemed to be surprised at her comment, but his immediate response was that she didn't open it. Maybe he thought if she opened it, she'd understand why he wanted her to hate him, why he thought he deserved it.

I'd like to believe that Topher was already that smart. I like the idea that there are unknown dolls among the dolls, but I don't want the entire establishment to end up having handlers just outside the door. It cheapens it somehow, takes the easy way out. I think Topher was really just that good, but perhaps his motives for joining the Dollhouse weren't just about working where he can do work his grad-school professors hadn't even dreamed of yet. Maybe the imprint he used on his birthday was even Whisky's original personality (with a couple of minor adjustments, or Whisky may have known what was going to happen and embraced it as an alternative to her future), we just don't know yet. That's part of the fun :)

I'm definitely of the opinion that Alpha was only the initial nudge that sent Ballard information, but he was unable to get back into the Dollhouse without help and so couldn't get in to tamper with the dolls. He had the intelligence to remote wipe, and even the equipment, but he couldn't get in to tamper with the imprints being put in place.

I also don't think that Dominic was the mole that Ballard was getting information from. When Mellie said (in her November spy state) that the person was captured/compromised, she couldn't have known that someone was onto Dominic. The timeline was wrong, Mellie was imprinted and after that, Topher talked to Dominic about finding the NSA chip. In order for Mellie to have had that information hidden as part of her imprint, this would have needed to be known well before she was imprinted so that Topher's version could be altered. It just doesn't add up. Couple that with the imprint constantly referring to itself as part of a group (though that could be the NSA) and it just isn't logical.

I think I broke IntenseDebate, so second half to follow..

Couple that with the imprint constantly referring to itself as part of a group (though that could be the NSA) and it just isn't logical.

...stupid length limits.

I'd love to take a look, the theories you're positing are pretty damned interesting and it'd be fascinating to see what other ideas you have under your belt. Given the rumours we're hearing about Dollhouse possibly getting a season 2, you may even get a job out of it! :)

Definitely, Saunders/Whisky mentioned something like that early on (which I had forgotten until you mentioned it again), saying "sometimes you just hope for good enough". Couple that with her reaction to Victor when he says that he's not his best and you see more evidence (don't you just love Whedon?) that the soul and the person you are deep at your core is never wiped, nor are the experiences you've had. If that's followed on from, I wonder what it means for Sierra and her experiences with both the man that trapped her in the Dollhouse and her handler's evil deeds.

Roll on Monday, I love hypothesising but it's more fun when you know you're going to find out the right answer later!

The difficult thing about characters in the series figuring things out is that even though they figure this stuff out, like Saunders figuring out she was actually a doll she is looking at it through the mental frame of Dr. Saunders, and his desire to help and 'do no harm' probably are more important than taking back some life you once had. (Also when Victor got the tongue lashing from Saunders was anybody just thinking about the Joker during that part? I know it's easy but I couldn't help it...)

I think we might all just be overthinking Saunders comment to Topher about hating him. It was probably just a more effective way of communicating that she was upset at the way her situation was handled. But just to throw my hat in I think it might have been the fact that Topher might blame himself for Dr. Saunders death being that Alpha should have been done when he got into the chair. (How about that grisly scene with Alphas handler?)

Also, I'm not sure that most of the help coming from the dollhouse wasn't Alpha, because he probably knew that he couldn't come in, take a doll, make an imprint etc. without a decoy. Ballard just happened to be the patsy for Ballard.

Just since we seem to be expressing our curious thoughts about the series, and then commenting on other peoples I am a bit curious about Topher. He just seems so smart, and being that he went to some college from his comment about his professors being oblivious to the cutting edge technology. It just seems that Topher is too smart to be doing what he is, and I hope we get some more insight into Topher in the future. Is he a doll? Did he get some super special imprint to just increase his intelligence? Does he have any connections to the dolls? Also, I think the imprint he made on his birthday wasn't of someone, I know if I were in that situation I would make an imprint of myself. I mean, they think like you, they are annoyed by the same things as you, they like the same things as you, they would understand you...and they could be a HOT CHICK! ...what...it's not gay...that's so archaic of you to think that...

Oh and a few places have sources saying Dollhouse is getting renewed, but the official word will be out on Monday.

THUS ENDS MY SUPER LONG POST IN THE LINE OF SUPER LONG POSTS

I know how you feel. I've actually gone back and watched a few of the episodes, especially dialogue from Saunders. There's a scene where Boyd says Echo is special and Saunders tells him that "special isn't always best," or something along those lines. It makes you wonder, because the reason Whisky was slashed in the face was because she was "special." I know Whedon loves putting these little things in to tease... so you *can* look back and go "ooohhhh, did she mean....?" And especially the last episode, I've watched three times now, to try and full understand. There's so many ways you can interpret what Whisky meant, or what Echo was trying to convey when she touched Topher's heart, etc... and I think that's a sign of a great sign. Where things aren't so clear-cut and people can draw their own conclusions.

I, too, think Saunders has accepted her persona. She knows she's a doll, she knows the person she is isn't exactly who she was... but all the while she is Dr Saunders, she's doing some good. It probably beats the hell out of sitting on a storage shelf. She probably reasons that at least she's helping others. And really, I think finding out who she was, has helped bring some closure to her. The scene where she gives Victor the lollipops was so bitter/sweet. Like, she knows the pain he'll have to feel now, and she probably thinks it's her duty to take care of him. Who else would know how?

I think my theory (for now anyway, it seems to change every day), is that Whisky was someone close to Topher, but she suffered from some kind of Dementia (or whatever). He brought her into the Dollhouse (probably against her will, but he thought he was doing good). They agreed to take her on, if he applied his genius to work for them. It makes a bit of sense... though, my mind is nowhere near as warped as Whedon and Co's, so...

And on another note. I'm actually a budding screenwriter, who is at this moment knocking out a season two premier (an actual script, continuing from the finale). If you ever had the time, I would love for you to see what I have so far (only nine pages... I did only start an hour ago), as you seem very clued in on the characters. A longshot, I know, but I love feedback, and I wouldn't mind sending a spec script to FOX... at least to show them the fans care!

A longshot, I know, but I love feedback, and I wouldn't mind sending a spec script to FOX... at least to show them the fans care!

I know how you feel. I've actually gone back and watched a few of the episodes, especially dialogue from Saunders. There's a scene where Boyd says Echo is special and Saunders tells him that "special isn't always best," or something along those lines. It makes you wonder, because the reason Whisky was slashed in the face was because she was "special." I know Whedon loves putting these little things in to tease… so you *can* look back and go "ooohhhh, did she mean….?" And especially the last episode, I've watched three times now, to try and full understand. There's so many ways you can interpret what Whisky meant, or what Echo was trying to convey when she touched Topher's heart, etc… and I think that's a sign of a great sign. Where things aren't so clear-cut and people can draw their own conclusions.

I, too, think Saunders has accepted her persona. She knows she's a doll, she knows the person she is isn't exactly who she was… but all the while she is Dr Saunders, she's doing some good.

It makes a bit of sense… though, my mind is nowhere near as warped as Whedon and Co's, so…
