It's just not doing it overtly. Dexter is opening up to everyone. That's what happens right before everything collapses. Giving in to emotion gives him more to lose, and I have a feeling that the show is brave enough to destroy his world with at least one or more of the situations they're setting up: 1) Rita finding out he's a serial killer. 2) His new ADA partner falling out and prosecuting him with evidence he's collected along the way. 3) Debra getting closer to her informant means her informant might lead her to Dexter's connection to Freebo. Basically, there's some major stuff that's festering beneath the surface, and this show has a way of letting it all hit the fan at the right moments.Plus, the key lime pie component was incredibly moving in this episode.
