Episode: “Deadlock” (Season Four, Episode 18)

Synopsis: Ellen, the final Cylon returns to Battlestar Galactica to be reunited with Saul, only to find that he has gotten Caprica Six pregnant. While Ellen works with the other high-ranking Cylons on board to figure out the next step in their survival, Gaius Balter returns to his flock to find one of his minions trying to undermine his authority.

Review: Well, it was bound to happen. After a couple weeks of some of the best BSG episodes ever, this one was a bit of a downer for myself. It was cool to see all the relationship drama among the Cylons, which is to be expected because Ellen and Saul were never emotionally stable together. However, this installment seemed to be more about setting things up for the final four episodes.

After being the kick-ass leader for the humans, Bill Adama finally takes some down time, getting stinking drunk with Saul the Cylon and moping around the guts of Galactica while Cylon juice is poured into its superstructure. I’ll forgive Adama for this. He’s had a rough couple weeks.

I’m sure that FSR’s Robert Fure is giddy as hell that Gaius Balter is finally back in the spotlight. His harem is a bit shaky, but he seems to retain control. Still, I feel that Baltar is just marking time for something better than keeping his ladies in check, I hope.

Finally, the Jerry Springer drama between Caprica Six, Ellen the Savior and Saul the Cylon is a bit sticky in this episode. I wonder why they just don’t join together in a three way. If Gaius can do it with Caprica Six and the Xena Cylon, why can’t Saul get a piece of the action.

Like I said, a bit of a slow-down for me, but I have faith for the final four episodes coming up.
