It''s hard to follow Peggy and her new copy writer buddy in the plot - they don't enunciate very well and you couldn't follow what they were up to or I may just be "dense."

Janet

Donald Draper really IS a cipher; he is a personality-construct created by Dick Whitman to find his way around in the world. The real question is: Who is Dick Whitman?

The Donald Draper persona which worked so well in 1960 is unsuited for the circumstances of 1964. So the exciting thing about season four will be watching Dick Whitman destroy the Donald Draper 1 golem and gradually craft a new one more suited to his new surroundings: Donald Draper 2.

And the theory that the MM series will ultimately end with Dick Whitman's suicide is not so far-fetched, considering how strange it is for a man so late in life to have an identity crisis which almost borders on schizophrenia. Most tv networks would never dream of killing off the star of the series, but I think Weiner might have the balls to do it (so to speak).

As a huge fan of Mad Men, I was thoroughly disappointed with the premiere of season 4. Although we certainly got to catch up with Don, what about all the other characters about whom we learned absolutely nothing. Also, I don't think Betty's character is going to work now that she's married to that very straight-laced, boring new husband, especially since mothers who are unkind to their children tend to turn audiences off, even if poor parenting skills were better tolerated in the 60's than they are today. And what was supposed to be that shocking sex scene Don had with the prostitute slapping him certainly didn't come off very convincingly. It was pretty comical I thought. This first episode has me worried that Mad Men reached its peak last season, and that the magic of the series is now lost.
