Episode: “Tucson is the Way to Dick or This Is Not Sexy” (Season 2, Episode 2)
Synopsis: Ray is told to make amends with the pregnant Claire, but continues to offer his marital advice anyways. Lenore and Tanya continue their power struggle to control Ray’s wiener and where it goes, while the sexy neighbor Yael gifts the stud a nice new mattress for his burned out house. Meanwhile, Ray’s attempts at fixing his broken marriage spin in place.
Review: Thankfully the second episode of season two was far less depressing than the first – though that’s not to say its an entirely happy time. Ray finds his stride boning Claire as he assume he follows the previous episodes ‘pimp advice’ and pretends that it’s his ex-wife Jessica.
During a potential client meeting, the still way too frumpy Tanya speaks out of turn, bothering Lenore and alienating the client. Not one to sit idly by no matter how smart that may be, Tanya seeks out the rich client and does a pretty good job convincing her to consider Ray’s services.
One particular scene that generated equal parts laughs and melancholy was Darby joining a fat acceptance rally outside of a gym. On one hand, this seems like a very funny situation, on the other hand, the show, as it often does, chooses to play this for emotional response rather than laughs, meaning we get tears and yelling rather than cake eating. My thoughts on fat acceptance groups are for an entirely different article.
I’m starting more and more to notice and enjoy Yael, the hot Israeli neighbor. She brings much of the sexual humor that I think the show should focus on – plus she’s really hot. It’s funny, but not good, that the most enjoyable parts of the show for me are the minor characters and the bits we hardly ever get to see. I’m not really a fan of all the whining, crying, family drama.
But luckily Tom Jane is still magnetic as Ray and even though the premise of the show is about his schlong, we’re still not seeing enough sex and wang jokes. I will continue to call for that until the show stops or we get more laughs. We get it – life is bleak and family life is hard. But life doesn’t have to be this damn depressing, especially when you’ve got a big dong and plenty of ladies.
The show could use a face lift in my opinion, but as is its still worth watching for the scattered nudity, Tom Jane, awkward laughs, and a reminder that your own life is still pretty good, even if you’re coming up short in the junk department.
