Hung: Just the Tip

Episode: “Just the Tip” (Season 2, Episode 1)

Synopsis: Tanya and Lenore butt heads over how to best run the business while Ray causes some client trouble by giving a pregnant woman “just the tip.” On the home front, Ray tries to reconnect with Jessica, who is doubting her marriage to Ronnie.  At school, budget cuts threaten the baseball team.

Review: Hung is back and has us standing at full attention.  That’s what I would be saying (it’s a boner joke), but this show was not boner inducing tonight.  Rather, this episode was a bit of a downer.  Now, Hung has always veered more towards the emotional than the comical, but this episode seemed overly down on itself.  Everyone was dirty and sad, well, except Lenore (Rebecca Creskoff), who was hot.  And hot.

Tom Jane, as expected, is just as good as he was last season in a role that will undoubtedly expand his presence and offer him the rightful opportunities he deserves in TV and film.  Also true to last season is Tanya (Jane Adams), who still doesn’t do anything for me.  I get that she is the foil to Lenore, but that anyone who wants to be in ‘the business’ to walk around looking that frumpy is ridiculous.  She was green sneakers with a skirt for crying out loud.  Just looking at her makes me want to scream “this woman has no idea how to pimp a ho.”

Katherine Hahn was briefly interesting in her role as the pregnant client, but judging from the previews she’ll be sticking around a bit longer so we’ll see more of her in the future. While I like Hahn, I can’t say I’m all that excited at this prospect. Ray’s big hang-up this episode was that he used to like to fuck Jessica while she was pregnant and now this client begs for validation and pregnant sex.

If you think about it, the opportunity for laughs is incredible – a male prostitute and a pregnant client.  But instead of laughs, we’re going to get melodrama.  I like the show, but I’ve always had the same problem with it: it’s a show about a guy with a gigantic dick becoming a ho, but there is surprisingly little sex and few dick jokes.  I could deal with less melodrama and more melon-haha. That doesn’t make sense, but what I’m saying is I want lots of laughs and plenty of nudity.  That said, this episode we did get to see the beautiful neighbor Yael Koontz in the nude. In that same scene Tom Jane is mostly in the buff, sporting a chiseled set of abdominals for the ladies.

When all is said and down, I’m glad to see the show back on the air, though I look forward to more aggressive episodes, but this was a cool and calm re-entry for Hung.

What did you think of this week’s episode?
