The episode was actually called "What Kate Does," not "What Kate Did." I think this is a reference to the fact that her M.O. always seems to be to run. Running is what she "does." We see her do it in the non-crash reality and on the island. It's who she is.

Also, I understood the pregnancy curse as not something that always existed, since clearly Ethan is conceived and born there (and perhaps Miles as well). I have a feeling it was a consequence of the Purge and/or Ben's take-over, which would explain why he was so desperate to find a solution to that problem.

So far I have loved the way the new season is starting, These first two episodes I would agree that they almost feel short especially this episode I did the same thing looked down at the time and realized there were only 10 min left and wondered where the episode went? I do however have one issue with the new season. The issue is with the first episode this season and has to do with Daniel Faraday, He was killed back in the 70's before the bomb went off. We know from the same episode(the one where he dies) that Daniel's mother knew that if he went to the island she would kill him. So then wouldn't she know about the bomb being set off(since she led them to it). That's how she knew it was Jack's "destiny" to go to the island, because she had seen him there 30 years prior. And since the bomb clearly destroyed the island from the first episode of this season, how is it that she would have survived to send her son to the island in the first place. Someone correct me if im wrong here.

A) Snap, lostnerd's right, Ethan WAS born on the island. But I'm assuming he was also evacuated on the submarine that Miles' mom got on prior to the bomb explosion. Speaking of Miles (and all the other Dharma kids), was he conceived off the island or on it? Because ...

B) We realized that Alex and Aaron were both conceived OFF the island. That may be the reason they were not subjected to the "Island Baby Curse." But once Sun found out she was pregnant (ie, conceiving on the island), Juliet urged her to leave because she was in danger of dying. Juliet said she thought the problem came at conception. Was this always an issue (meaning no one is a true island native), or did it only start after Ben's coup? Did the nuclear explosion in one reality somehow affect the islanders' ability to reproduce in the other? Like altnerate reality fallout?

haha Mac from It's Always Sunny was actually in a season 3 episode when Sawyer and Kate rescue Karl from being brainwashed in Room 23. Kate does in fact bash him in the face with her rifle.
