I'll grant you that the vasectomy story wasn't the brightest crayon in the box - as I said, it seems a bit abrupt that Jack just all of a sudden makes a life-altering decision - but I have to give that story credit because it brought in the always fantastic Dr. Spaceman and, in my opinion, will contribute to a much more overarching development of Jack as a person. Since the beginning of this season, Jack has been making efforts to become (in a way) a "better" person and this, I think, will just contribute to that in the long run.

In regards to taking likability away from Tracy, this is a guy who in the past has talked openly about going to strip clubs behind his wife's back and has been negligible towards his kids before (see the past episodes with Bobb'e Thompson). We're not meant to like him because he's a decent human being, we're meant to like him because he's hilarious. If you think about it, most of the cast of 30 Rock are reprehensible characters:
- Liz is addicted to food and quite often selfish
- Jenna is self-centered and air-headed
- Jack is unapologetically abrasive and elitist

Where these characters succeed is in being endearing because of their flaws, not in spite of them.

Liz Lemon, in my eyes, is always beautiful, but I understand your complaint. I think that in the past seasons, NBC was focused moreso on attracting new viewers, something that Fey's Sarah Palin impressions on SNL helped drive in. They dressed her up because she was a figure head for the show. That's not to say they're not concerned with attracting new viewers, but with good enough ratings to stay alive on the air and a consistent slew of awards, they're getting back to what counts.

God, I'm verbose.

I am a new visitor to your reviews and came across it after being pretty disappointed in this week's 30Rock. To be fair, it could have been my mood today. The vasectomy story was dull (and took away some likability from Tracy) and the urination story was poorly dealt I believe.

Anyway, something else that I noticed was how frumpy Liz Lemon was looking. Her hair is frizzier and she is layered in 'old' clothing. To be fair, this fits the character as presented, but in earlier seasons Liz has always looked really sharp, despite discussion of her frumpy look.

I miss the sharp looking Liz Lemon. It's tv, I don't watch it for realism. Thoughts?
