Showtime Dreams Darkly, Orders 2 More Seasons of Dexter

Michael C. Hall as Dexter

If there is any one TV-related announcement that is music to our ears, it is the news that came this afternoon that Showtime has picked up two more seasons of its top-rated drama series Dexter. This comes, of course, on the heels of announcements that Fox picked up the abysmal Sarah Connor Chronicles for a full season and that NBC has optioned a full frame for Knight Rider, a decision that our own Knight Rider-blogging Mister Hand called ‘a sign that there is no God.’

The decision to pick up seasons 4 and 5 of Dexter however, could be seen as a blessing to fans of great television drama, as the show is quite possibly one of the best shows on television. And it appears as if I am not the only one who thinks that, as this season’s premiere set a Showtime record as the most watched season premiere since the network adjusted its ratings system in 2004. The first episode, which aired on September 28, was seen by an estimated 1.2 million viewers, a 21% increase over last season.

The fourth season of Dexter will go into production in the spring in Los Angeles.

Do you watch Dexter? If not, what is wrong with you?

Worst News Ever. My favourite show set to become just another drama, Season 3 has already been way too pedastrian, he hardly even kills anyone anymore, and now two more seasons. I know it wil never happen but just once I'd like a studio/channel to let a show/movie be what it is and not try and milk it for every penny.

get ready for season 5's season premiere where Dexter teaches his son how to throw a baseball, Yah!!!, I want Darkly Dreaming Dexter back, not Daddy Daycare Dexter
