Fringe Gets Full Season, Sarah Connor Could Get Dropped, Diablo Cody’s Tara Sets Date

There is, like, tons of TV-related news happening in the wee hours of the morning, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to get all out of the way in one article. In fact, if I could do it all on one paragraph, I certainly would, but I can’t, so this will have to do. Let’s have a look at the tube’s top stories of the day:

Fox picks of Fringe for a full season

The folks at Fox and the folks at home apparently like what they see in the new sci-fi series Fringe, from producers J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. The often-strange series has been optioned for a full season, with Fox picking up the tab on the final nine episodes. This comes on the heals of Fringe’s third episode picking up 10.7 million viewers this past week, after a strong premiere and moderate results in week two, even while competing with premieres on other networks. Some of the success is being credited to its pairing with House, while much of the rest of the credit could possibly be credited to the quality of the series and the way it is starting to be embraced by fans who are figuring out that it isn’t just an X-Files rip-off. The Sarah Connor Chronicles is ‘this close’ to being Terminated

Rumors have been running all over the web that Fox is very close to putting The Sarah Connor Chronicles to rest after its relatively poor showing in viewership, down an estimated 34% from season one. More importantly, the show seems to be getting the cold shoulder from the coveted 18-49 demographic, showing that the geeks who latched onto the show early have long since drifted away.These problems come as no surprise to us, as our own Kevin Carr has had less than positive things to say about the first three episodes. No official word yet from Fox, but we would expect an announcement in the relatively near future. [SyFy Portal]

The United States of Tara will debut on January 18th

The brand new Showtime series The United States of Tara, which was developed by Hollywood’s new power couple (just kidding) Steven Spielberg and Diablo Cody will make its debut on January 18th at 10 pm, following the season finale of The L Word. The dark comedy, which will star Toni Collette as a mom with multiple personality disorder, will be coupled in the 10 o’clock hour with the second season of Showtime’s hit Secret Diary of a Call Girl.
