The Sarah Connor Chronicles

The Sarah Connor Chronicles, FOX, Airs Monday 8/7c

Episode: “Goodbye to all That” (Season 2, Episode 5)

Synopsis: A new Terminator comes back in time to hunt a key member of the future resistance. When Sarah (Lena Headey) figures this out, she sends John (Thomas Dekker) and Derek (Brian Austin Green) to protect the target while she and Cameron (Summer Glau) help save a young boy with the same name.

Review: A few weeks ago, I asked how many Terminators is too many. Apparently, not enough, according to the people running this show. Yet again, a Terminator comes back to target a resistance member. You’d think that these machines would actually manage to terminate something, wouldn’t you? After all, with the machines failing in the first films, they’re proving to be pretty awful at their prime programming.

Like other episodes, the chronology of this show is way off. John and Derek set out to help the target and manage to be placed into an elite military academy within a matter of hours. Then, Derek is able to run around the campus on his own accord without answering to any authority figure. I can imagine things could move this fast if they actually enlisted in the military, but jumping into a prep school over lunch just seemed a little silly.

The character of Sarah Connor was so cool in the films, and Lena Headey gave us a lot of high hopes. However, she spends more time moping around than actually grooming her kid to be the head of the resistance. I’d like to see her (and everyone else in the human camp) to go on the offensive for once rather than just waiting for an endless string of Terminators to come after them.

There were a few nice things in this episode, though. Much of this has to do with the Garbage Terminator (Shirley Manson) and her new partnership with Agent Ellison (Richard T. Jones). However, their purpose is somewhat murky in the show, and as cool as a liquid metal Terminator is, she is horribly underused in this plot-line.

Up Next Week: The show takes a week off before returning the next week with yet again another female Terminator while John tries to save a Skynet target from execution.
