TV Review: The Sarah Connor Chronicles – The Good Wound

Episode: “The Good Wound” (Season Two, Episode 14)
Synopsis: Sarah finds herself in the hospital with a gunshot wound from her shoot-out at the Skynet warehouse. She escapes the hospital and kidnaps a doctor to help take the bullet out, all the time hallucinating a visit with Kyle Reese. Meanwhile, John and Cameron are keeping their eyes on Riley, who is in the hospital after trying to kill herself while Derek tries to cover Sarah’s tracks. Finally, the retrofitted Terminator John Henry is learning about himself and the operation while Agent Ellison gets suspicious and the Garbage Terminator takes matters into her own hands… literally.
Review: Anyone who has read what I have written in the past about this show knows that I fell the series has lost a lot of its luster. There are still moments in the episodes that impress me, but the series has become weighted down with whininess and silly plot points. For every appearance of John Henry, there’s John Conner in a fit of pubescent angst. Nothing has changed much here.
The episode belongs to Sarah, dealing with her gunshot wound. However, having your title character in pain and on her back for the bulk of the episode doesn’t help things out. Then you throw in the most inappropriate actor to play Kyle Reese, and you have a recipe for crap. Where Michael Biehn galvanized the character with coolness and realism back in 1984, Jonathan Jackson is simply embarrassing in the role.
Jackson looks like he’s twelve years old, and his patch Wolverine-wannabe beard looks like he’s better fit to be in a high school marching band than being the ghost of a futuristic freedom fighter. And did anyone catch his Visine-augmented tear in his initial appearance. Lena Headey must have rolled her eyes when he showed up on set.
There’s an attempt to add empathy to Sarah’s plight with her kidnapped doctor, who has a history with the county sheriff who lays on a southern accent only when he has someone at gunpoint. This was a bit predictable and suffered from plot holes as well.
The BSG Sexpot Jessie continues her weird relationship with Riley, but doesn’t further much of their story beyond a mild reference to bringing her to the present, which we have already heard.
The best part of the story continues to be the Garbage Terminator and her conversations with John Henry, who is able to deduce her true identity. And she also gets a chance to show her fangs a bit, which was nice. But there was that implication that she decided to stealthily enter a facility by posing as a urinal. What kind of fetish does this machine have?
