Psych, USA, Airs Friday 10/9c

Episode: “Lassie Did a Bad Bad Thing” (Season Three, Episode 11)

Synopsis: Detective Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) collars a high-level drug dealer in the Santa Barbara area, and the FBI is brought in for the guy to turn state’s evidence. However, the drug dealer turns up dead after a momentary freak blackout in the station, and Lassie is left standing over him with his weapon drawn. Lassie is now on the hook for murder, and it’s up to Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dulé Hill) to prove his innocence.

Review: This episode was a bit of a let-down from last week, which I considered one of the best of the year. However, it still works in the Psych universe. Lassie has always had such a weird relationship with Shawn and Gus. I like the character when he’s a heel and when he shows his disdain for his favorite local psychic detectives. However, put him in the position of needing their help, and it gets touchy.

Sadly, Gus really didn’t have a whole lot to do in this episode, so we lost a bit of the banter between him and Shawn that makes the show so good. There were definitely some funny moments, but Lassie doesn’t provide as much of a foil for Shawn as Gus does. (However, there were some classic bits, like Shawn “hitting the jackal switch” for Gus in stealth mode.)

Additionally, Jules (Maggie Lawson) also had a smaller part in this episode, which is a shame because she can be damn funny. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed this episode, but it wasn’t the best of the year.

And on the pineapple front, my wife and I found both of them, allowing us to enter to win a trip to Hawaii. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

Up Next: Shawn and Gus sign up with the fire department to solve a string of arson cases, with Bruce McGill as the guest star.

I really enjoyed this one. I always enjoy this show. Once again it is hands down the best show on t.v. in my book.
  • I liked this episode. I didn't love last weeks like you did though. I liked giving Lassiter a little something more to do, his little badass moments were nice. You've got to throw all the main supporting characters a little extra here and there. Heck, even the Chief got an expanded role in the sitter episode.
