Heroes, NBC, Mondays 9/8c

Episode: “I Am Sylar” (Season 3, Episode 24)

Synopsis: Sylar (Zachary Quinto) continues his unusual partnership and begins to have an unexpected identity crisis. Hiro (Masi Oka) and Ando (James Kyson Lee) take measures toward bringing down Building 26. Meanwhile, Matt’s (Greg Grunberg) new found fatherhood changes his priorities. Elsewhere, Nathan (Adrian Pasdar) sets a plan in motion to right the wrongs of his government operation.

Review: Oh, Sylar, how many issues you have. The shape-shifting ability he gained has started to backfire and now the psycho doesn’t know who he is. It definitely beats hearing him talk about his parents all the time. Instead, we get to see him talk to them. Oy. Now that Sylar has been confirmed dead, he has to act as so. That usually doesn’t work well for serial killers, if I am correct.

I was watching The Talented Mister Ripley last night and it occurs to me that Tom Ripley and Sylar are the same character, two lost souls that aren’t content living their own lives.

The seed was placed for the rivalry between Hiro and Ando, and it’s understandable why Ando would feel like he is second-best. Nobody likes to play Robin, well maybe Chris O’Donnell, but he needs all the work he can get. What is going to happen now that the two are partners, and what are the repercussions of Hiro changing the effect of his time-stopping ability? Things are going to get bloody.

A few quick questions: If Rebel (Noah Gray-Cabey) knows that he is being chased by agents and has to leave in a matter of seconds, why is he taking time to grab Wolverine comics? Why is Sylar sitting in Hunter’s office in plain sight with the blinds open if he knows that the agents are looking for him? It’s the little things that shake me from this show sometimes.

It was an unexpected twist for Sylar to let Rebel/Micah live, but then again he is self-serving and desperate to find answers. This is the second time he’s let children tag along for a bit. Maybe he should start an orphanage or institution to teach youngsters with special ability… oh wait. Been there.

Can we get at least one episode, even if it’s a what if one, where Sylar gets to play President. That’d be epic.

Reality is hard to come by in a story of superheroes, but it wasn’t in I Am Sylar. Matt Parkman made a lot of sense in trying to escape the responsibilities that come with his abilities. But we all know he can’t run from his destiny any more than Vin Diesel can escape The Fast and the Furious films.

Heroes has picked up the pieces from what was a lackluster season. Bravo. Now let’s see a showdown.

Up Next Week: Nathan (Adrian Pasdar) faces off against Sylar (Zachary Quinto) to keep him from meeting the President (guest star Michael Dorn). Sylar has his own plans for his new partner. Meanwhile, Hiro (Masi Oka) learns that there are repercussions to regaining his ability. Elsewhere, Matt (Greg Grunberg) is forced to go to extraordinary lengths to protect his future with his family.

  • good episode, one question though, if Rebel is always able to warn others about agents being right outside the door and such, how the heck did he not realise they were on his trail?

agreed w/Jmoney and this article. I don't mind suspending disbelief with my sci-fi, but I hate suspending logic.

the sylar thing you brought up about him being in the office, i would think he walked in as an agent then just shaped back,

as far as the comics you have a funny point which is what i thought when he was stuffing his back pack too

so strange, maybe micah doesnt want to let go of the comics hes had from the past

    leaps of logic include.

.matt forgetting all about his love for daphne...matt is a fickle woman

the producers not letting hayden just use her own hair....christ, i know the show has to worry about budjet, but cant they splurge on a wig that looks real...and if not, who cares if her hair is now short....

hiro and ando still behaving like children....im sorry, its not cute anymore, and there have been so many setups showing both maturing, that it should stick...i mean, god forbid a network show should have a strong leading asian character....40 years after gunsmoke, and we still get hopsing

nathan going to face sylar alone??? whahahahahahah....ya, that worked really good

and this whole setup of having to live in secret again to get back to their "normal live"....jeez...been there, done that

and only one character will die next week? im sure it is nathan, as he is probably sick of the show...but it should be a mass killing

It isn't a stretch to think that his parents bought him those comic books and he feels connected to them because both of his parents are now dead. If that were the case he wouldn't leave them behind.
