TV Review: Eureka 3.10 – Your Face or Mine

Episode: “Your Face or Mine” (Season Three, Episode 10)

Synopsis: While Sheriff Carter (Colin Ferguson) is out of commission for fitness training, Jo Lupo (Erica Cerra) gets a chance to be acting sheriff. However, after an accident in the DNA lab, Jo starts acting rather odd with fits of erratic behavior and an unnatural attraction to Doug Fargo. This causes Jo to start investigating herself to uncover how she seems to be turning into a different person.

Review: I have recovered from my disappointment following Eureka’s mid-season finale. We’re back to each week being a run-of-the-mill Eureka episode, and I’m quite frankly okay with that.

I did enjoy the fact that Erica Cerra finally got a chance to show off some of her acting talents, as well as a sensual amount of leg in one scene. I have always enjoyed Cerra as an actor, and her character of Jo Lupo has always been interesting. With Sheriff Carter in the forefront, it was nice to give a supporting character the spotlight for once.

Additionally, it was cool to see Fargo actually have a chance at getting some action. Sure, the guy’s a total goob, but us goobs need some love now and then, after all.

Still, is it just me, or is the pseudo-science behind Eureka getting worse? At one point early in the series run, it seemed like these sort of things could happen in the hyperreality of television. However, the last two episodes don’t even seem possible in the Star Trek universe. It seems that Henry has a machine for damn near everything, and clever fixes come way too easily.

Similarly, I’m sure that Colin Ferguson enjoyed the break for a week (probably filming all of his scenes in a single day), but I don’t get how the guy managed to stand in one place for more than 24 hours with no food, no water and no bathroom. Who does he think he is? David Blaine?

Well, Colin Ferguson didn't get *too* much of a break, directing the episode and all.

I really enjoy Eureka most of the time, but this episode really didn't do much for much for me. It started out with an interesting story, but then just died out, in this viewers opinion.

And you are right, the are really stretching the limits of science as they movie through the series, but I have to just tell myself that it is a sci-fi story. Though the "sudden quick fix" is getting a little played out.

I still enjoy the characters and think Colin Ferguson is great on the show. I really miss the banter between Carter and Nathan Stark, I was bummed to see him go. I'm still watching...so I'm glad to see it made it to another season.
