Burn Notice

Burn Notice, USA, Airs Thursday 10pm

Episode: Do No Harm (Season 2, Episode 10)

Synopsis: Last we saw Michael Westen, he just barely avoided being reduced to many small, smoking bits by an explosion that rocked his apartment. Fresh from his brush with death and only a little worse for wear, Michael immediately sets upon a case involving medical swindlers who took $250,000 from a father attempting to find a cure for his very ill son. An opportunity also arises for our favorite burned spy to get a leg up on those that burned him.

Review: Burn Notice is back and in a big way. Thanks to a USA Network marathon, a DVR, and some free time, I managed to get refreshed on everything that happened in Season 2 leading up to the premiere episode. Burn Notice is one of those rare shows that are good enough that I don’t mind sitting there for 5 hours watching it. Show me a 5 hour movie or a marathon of most other shows, and I’m out of there.

This spy thriller stays fresh in large part due to the characters, both in how they’re written and how they’re acted. Bruce Campbell is always on fire, and he gets to play interrogator again this episode, which is always fun. Big things also await Jeffrey Donovan, who is one of the coolest spies in spy history.

If you haven’t been watching, catch up. If you’re a fan, you’ve no doubt enjoyed this first episode back. Each storyline continues to be engaging all on its own, no matter what the cast entails. The run-through story of who burned Michael and why is also interesting, and some new things are thrown into the mix in this episode – notably another mysterious party, looking to get in on some explosive action. Like always, Burn Notice brings the heat with strong performances, good stories, and fun spy action.

I must say, the previous finale actually stunted my interest with how campy it was. The main character getting blown up for a cliffhanger? I also felt like everything came together too fast in the last thirty minutes of the episode, just like the previous finale. It seemed crammed and that's one thing I frown upon with television. You can tell a fantastic show by how it paces itself and keeps a good consistency throughout. I'm not saying the show isn't fantastic, it's actually one of my current super favorites, but I see areas it can get even better in.

This new episode brings it back for me though (faith that is). The prospect of another organization and some new play involved reeeeeeeally makes it interesting. I also liked how *SPOILER* Campbell was kind of taken out of the picture this early in the season. *SPOILER* The gives plenty of room for something monumental to happen between Fiona and Michael, regardless of it's good or bad. We all know it's going to happen, which is exactly why Fi's little boyfriend doesn't need to be in the picture. It's more mysterious route for them if he's gone now.

I loved it. Burn Notice has quickly become my favorite show.

I'm very excited about the possibility of a Michael/Fi hook up. And it was very cool seeing Bruce 'The Chin' Campbell throwing down with Jeffry Donovan. I'll agree that big things are coming for him.. With his role in Changeling and Burn Notice, I just really hope he doesn't become too big a star to continue with the show.

I've always loved the style, the way Michael describes everything via voice over. It's thrilling. I can't remember the last time I liked a tv show this much. It makes the week pass by so slowly!

I do agree with you Patrick that it could get better in some areas. And just the thought of it getting better is exciting.
  • It is wonderful to have Burn Notice back and way before the summer months. I love this show and it's easily one of my favorites. I can't wait to see what this season brings, especially with this new mystery organization. I loved the throw down between Fi and that Rachel woman, what a bitch! And of course the fist fight between Michael and Sam, which ended in a sincere moment with no words needing to be said. Watching Fi play army with the little boy... yeah, this episode had a ton of good moments.
  • This is my regular Thrusday night show, and it repeats at 1am for all you night owls out there like myself.
