As a follow-up to yesterday’s reveal of the new poster, a first trailer has premiered for My Bloody Valentine 3D (courtesy of IGN.) The trailer plays things darker and more seriously than the fun and colorful poster does.

It looks like a traditional slasher film for the most part, but I admit the few bits that play up the 3D aspect have me intrigued. Who knew pick-axes flying towards you could look so cool? But aside from that, there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of 3D potential on display. The two theater-based scenes from the trailer showing the movie playing on-screen obviously aren’t in the actual film, but it’s nice to see Lionsgate incorporate them in to draw more attention to the 3D effects.

My Bloody Valentine 3D opens in January of next year.

What do you think of the trailer? Does a 3D slasher movie have potential?
