Movie Trailer: Clooney and Krasinski in Leatherheads

We picked this trailer up from our friends over at Yahoo Movies, and it is certainly one of those polarizing experiences. A directorial work of George Clooney, Leatherheads takes us back to the beginnings of professional football with John Krasinksi (The Office) and Renée Zellweger (Bridget Jones’ Diary) along for the ride. Krasinski plays Carter Rutherford, a straight-laced college sensation who is recruited by Jimmy ‘Dodge’ Connelly (Clooney) in an attempt to save his financially failing pro football team.
It is being billed as a romantic comedy — and the trailer shows every bit of the comedic tone. It almost has a feeling akin to Down With Love or even, and this may be a stretch, O’ Brother, Where Art Thou?. Clooney has always been solid when he is not taking himself so seriously (I’m looking at you, Michael Clayton) and John Krasinski has the perfect delivery for a stuffy Ivy-leaguer. Zellweger also appears to fit well in the equation. It all ads up to a film that could turn out to be a lot of fun — but we shall see, I suppose.
Leatherheads hits theaters April 4, 2008.
