Weekly Top 5 - Sports Comedies

Posted by Benjamin Chalek (ben@rankamovie.com) on February 7, 2007

Welcome to this week’s Top 5 Movies, brought to you by RankAMovie.com

The cold of winter is upon us. The Superbowl has passed, and children are beginning to dream about baseball and spring-time soccer games. Sports can be fun! Sports can be serious! Sports can be hilarious! Go ahead and grab your mit, ball, and hat, flip on the television, and enjoy some of the greatest, silliest movies about sports.

Below is a list of the top 5 comedy movies about sports, as ranked by the visitors of RankAMovie. All movies are added to a category and ranked by visitor votes.

  1. The Waterboy - Adam Sandler treats us to some good ol’ football fun, and keeps us hydrated, too!
  2. Major League - Oh, the smell of freshly cut grass, the chirp of birds in the distance, and the crack of bats whacking a baseball. This film gives us all the fun of a baseball film, and even has a little drama.
  3. Kicking and Screaming
    - This soccer film is tons of fun, and the coaches are sometimes more entertaining
than the games. Imagine coaching a team of youngsters, and wishing that you
demolish your father’s team…ah yes, childhood memories. Will Ferrell takes
on Robert Duvall. Mike Ditka even gets in on the action.
  4. Happy Gilmore - Mr. Gilmore share his baseball-like-swing to teach a new lesson
to the golfing professionals. Even Bob Barker gets in on the action of giving
    "lessons" to Gilmore.
  5. Caddyshack
    - Golfing, caddying, and crazy bets. Lots of fun. A classic golf game, and
I don’t mean PGA-type classic. This is one very silly golf movie. There’s
    even an adorable gofer!

I agree with 1, 2, and 5. I disagree with 3, but that’s just me. Good list, overall. Are there any good basketball comedies?

What about Slap Shot?

Are we related?

Spelios says:

I am just wondering if Happy Gilmore should be on a list with the Top 5 sports movies while the movie Slap Shot is omitted?
