Weekly Top 5: Shark Movies

Posted by Benjamin Chalek (ben@rankamovie.com) on January 4, 2007

As students in the United States prepare to make plans for their Spring Break vacation, here are some scary and some fun movies about sharks!

Below is a list of the top 5 movies for Sharks, as ranked by the visitors of RankAMovie. If you would like to add a movie to the list, or cast a vote for the ranking order, visit RankAMovie and make your opinion heard. I must admit, I’m a bit surprised by a few of these, but that could simply be an indication that not enough people have yet voted to re-adjust the listing. When a new movie is added to a list in RankAMovie, the other members of the site will cast their votes and organize the list in a democratic fashion.

The Top 5 Shark Movies!

1. Jaws
Best movie to watch one week before traveling to a tropical paradise for a vacation. Not only is this a fun and fantastic movie to watch, you’ll also get to see some great actors early in their careers.

2. Dark Waters
the provided description of the movie contains a very interesting sentence: “a sumptuously unsettling sm¶rg¥sbord of disconcerting visuals and unnerving sounds that must be seen to be believed”. You may want to watch this film with the lights on….unless you dare!

The Top 5 Shark Movies!

3. Deep Blue Sea
This films presents itself as though it wants to be the modern version of “Jaws.” The film lacks a certain suspense factor that other shark movies have attained, and at times an audience member may cheer on the shark as it chases a human. Overall, this is a fun movie to watch. See a shark eat the performer LL Cool J.

4. She Gods of Shark Reef
Watch two theives get shipwrecked on an island full of women. Hmmm…doesn’t sound like much of a shark movie. Of course, the women have a freakish cult following for the sharks.

5. Shark
Burt Reynolds stars in a shark movie. The shark footage is real. A stunt-man died during the filming of one of the underwater scenes (sad story, but interesting trivia).

Okay, firstly whoever said no 4,5 and 2 were good films is seriously on crack. Jaws is an all time classic, which makes it hard for other shark movies to pass. Deep blue sea wasn’t that bad, it was okay, but she gods of shark reef, shark! and dark waters??? No way: Sorry……………………………………………………………………….

I can see why Jaws is #1, it was not only a great shark movie but one of the best movies of all time. The only problem I have with the movie is that there is only a few seconds of real shark footage, and it occurs at the end when Hooper is inside the cage. I’ve never seen Dark Waters, or She Gods Of Shark Reef, and Deep Blue Sea was really crappy…the sharks in that movie wouldn’t look real to a 3 year old and the plot sucked. Jaws of Death is my favorite shark movie, and it isn’t even on the list. It came out the year after Jaws did. Its an unusual but cool story, especially for people who like sharks. Also, all of the sharks in the film are real, most of them are tiger sharks…and the shark attacks look so real I don’t know how they pulled it off.

I don’t think Dark Waters was a shark movie. Also, Jaws 2 3 and 4 deserve to be on that list. possibly also the grim Shark Attack trilogy - even though the acting is bad in those ones.

Jaws is an all time classic and deserves to be at the top. Even though the shark to me looked like a rubber toy, the acting made the movie awesome. Who on gods green and verdant earth would make movies 2, 4, and 5? Burt Reynolds probably made the movie entertaining with SHARKS but seriously people. I found Deep Blue Sea enjoyable, the special effects could be better but the sharks they made out of rubber actually looked real. Not the most realistic plot with the genetically engineered sharks (GES) but most of the performances pull it off. The main woman in DBS is pretty but that’s all really, the acting was very pore on her part. Almost like she had to be there and do it, like a spoiled child. No offense on her part though. I’ve seen her in other movies and she’s very good. I should also point out that in one scene they brought in a tiger shark and it looked like a small mako/great white with stripes.
