Weekly Top 5 - Batman Movies

Posted by Benjamin Chalek (ben@rankamovie.com) on November 29, 2006

Welcome to this week’s Top 5 Movies, brought to you by RankAMovie.com

Last week was Turkey Week! Hopefully, we all enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving dinner, and are now recovering from lots of good food and friends. As we enter the month of December, the days are shortening and the nights are growing longer and longer. Tree shadows stretch across the fields a bit too early in the day. It may be a good time to watch a dark, eery movie, with a hero lurking in the shadows. Yes, it’s a good time to watch Batman! The playfulness of the comic-book hero can put us into the mood to think about toys and gifts, just in time for the winter holiday season.

Below is a list of the top 5 movies about Batman, as ranked by the visitors of RankAMovie. If you would like to add a movie to the list, or cast a vote for the ranking order, visit RankAMovie and make your opinion heard.

1. Batman Begins - Rather than being the 5th progressive flm about Batman, this film takes us back to the beginning of Batman. It’s a dark and danger-filled film, and a wonderful telling of Batman. Possibly one of the best superhero movies.

2. Batman Forever - Batman takes on the evils of the Riddler and Two-Face, and he acquires his famous side-kick, Robin. It’s always interesting to learn the origin of a character such as Robin.

3. Batman and Robin - A fun film, which somewhat parodies the Batman franchise. There are the nefarious bad guys, and our hero in black is swinging into action.

4. Batman - This is the first of recent Batman movies. It could be considered a classic. Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson battle in the streets of Gotham.

5. Batman Returns - Tim Burton takes us on a gruesome tale. Batman battles the Penguin in a fun, freakish, awesome adventure around Gotham. We witness the streets, the sewers, the parties, the dark, and the light.

This just proves the internet is full of kids. Batman Begins is clearly the best and should be followed by Batman. Batman Forever is terrible, the only saving grace? Ok I’ll give you two. Val Kilmer and Nicole Kidman. Loved Kilmer as Wayne, didn’t really dig the movie. And Batman and Robin is horrid. BAH!

Here’s to the upcoming Dark Knight!

Neil Miller says:

Here is how my top 5 would go for Batman:

1. Batman
- Michael Keaton was and always will be the best Batman!

2. Batman Begins
- Chris Nolan reinvented the Dark Knight like no one could have ever imagined.

3. Batman Returns
- Once again, Michael Keaton - solid.

4. Batman and Robin (1949)
- Spencer Bennett’s film from 1949 was way better than any of the other Batman movies, especially that schlock with George Clooney.

5. The Dark Knight (2008)
- I know its not out yet, or hasn’t even been filmed yet - but once again, no matter what happens, it will still be better than Ah-nold as Mr. Freeze.

That is my list!

Brian Gibson says:

Begins = #1 and Batman = #2

Matthew says:

AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! That was me disagreeing with the ranking.

I more in agreement with Neil’s. I go Batman #1, Batman Returns #2 and then, still decent but with a considerable drop off, Batman Begins #3. I decline to acknowledge the existence of other Batman movies.

You got to be kidding me!!!
Talk about being backwards, Yikes!! Who rated this thing, a bunch of monkeys!!
The original Tim Burton Batman with Nicholson as the Joker is head and shoulders above the rest, it is not only the best Batman movie, but the best super hero movie ever made. This would be followed by Batman Returns and then Batman Begins, I do not even consider Batman Forever or Batman and Robin to be Batman movies.

I’d agree with some of the comments on this page. Keep in mind that the list is based on rankings by the visitors of RankAMovie. The list is based on votes by the many different visitors.

I’m a fan of Keaton as Batman. At first I was skeptical, but over the years I’ve come to enjoy his portrayal of Batman.

Top 5 Batman theatrical films:

1. Batman Begins
2. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
3. Batman
4. Batman Returns
5. Batman (Adam West/Burt Ward)

I enjoy the West campiness.
Not sure I would count the ‘49 Batman, sure it was shown theatrically, but it wasn’t a film, per se, it was a serial shown in chapters. Which reminds me, I have to watch my copy….

Robert Fure says:

Nice slip in of Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. Slipped my mind, it was pretty good though.

Although the Batman with Adam West was sort of laughable, although maybe part of that is its charm? I mean c’mon, Shark Repellant on the bat utility belt?

Brian Gibson says:

I almost forgot about the best Batman film of them all. It stars Sam Rockwell as Batman and Justin Long as Robin…want to watch it? here you go
