DVD’s I Bought This Week - November 6, 2007

Since I am able to see most films for free, I always tell filmmakers and actors that it should be taken as a huge compliment that I paid to see their film after I had already screened it. I think that my trade allows me to have a slight advantage, but one that can be considered bittersweet. I have the fortune of being able to see all of the films that I want, and find out that they are only worth one viewing (or less) before I would willingly pay for the DVD and hate myself later. The bittersweet part though, is that I am able to see all of the great stuff and then put myself further in debt every week.

Ratatouille
	How can Pixar do this? Toys, bugs, cars, fish, and now rats. Pixar has a talent for taking things and making them something more. Ratatouille is a prime example of how we all still have a bit of imagination and childlike excitement left in all of us. Another must buy from the dream team of Pixar and Disney
Pixar Short Films Collection - Volume 1
	How can you go wrong with this one? Most of Pixar’s landmark short films jam-packed into one DVD, another must buy. It is amazing to see how quick their skill began to moved closer and closer to the Pixar that most of us know today. What really impressed me, was their first short. It didn’t look that impressive, until I saw that it was made in 1984. They were blowing people away with their computer animations when I was one-year old. They are still doing it today. The documentary on Pixar’s beginnings is particularly interesting.
I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry - HD-DVD
	Adam Sandler and Kevin James make this a must buy. I didn’t get to catch this is theaters, so I’m really excited about this title. Jessica Biel is part of the unholy alliance of hot women named Jessica, but she still sells tickets. Seeing David Spade in a sexy bunny outfit in High Definition was fun but also disturbing.
Seinfeld - Season 9
	No-brainer here. I already own all the other seasons, so why quit now? For all the slackers out there though, you can also get the complete series on DVD now too.
The Best Of The Colbert Report
	Stephen Colbert is a comic genius that deserves the biggest stage possible. I proudly own this DVD and implore you to run out and get it as well. Help keep the man in business and maybe we can laugh once in a while about our country instead of always worrying about it. Also, make sure to check out his book I Am America (And So Can You!).

DVD’s I Didn’t Buy - Week of November 6th

Sicko
	I loved this film, but it is definitely something I’d only want to see once. While Sicko was a fantastic film that was wildly entertaining and very much a product of Michael Moore, it was also incredibly depressing. A very harsh look at America’s health care, this film takes us down a road that most of us would never want to end up: France.
Planet In Peril
	What’s scarier than Al Gore and Global Warming? Detroit. Yeah, that’s right. Detroit is scary. Why not show how bad America has gotten? You know it’s bad when it has become trendy to adopt kids from other countries. Hey CNN, dress Anderson Cooper in some camouflage and put him in the middle of an American ghetto and ask him to report about what has some direct relevance to us.
Deck The Halls
	The fact that this DVD is releasing almost an entire year after its theatrical release could only mean one of two things. A) This is brilliant marketing for a holiday film, by capitalizing on two…count ‘em, two holiday seasons. Or B) This might be the end for two…count ‘em, two Hollywood has-beens in Danny DeVito and Matthew Broderick. This isn’t rocket surgery folks, stay away from this one like one of grandma’s fruitcakes.
