I'm saddened that Star Wars didn't make this list in any way (No Death Star, At-At Walker, Super Star Destroyer, or Alderan explosion!?!?!). Also, I personally think that the explosion in the 1st die hard where John jumps off the building as the roof blows or in the 2nd when he blows up the cargo plane both are better choices. The Commando clip seemed tame.

I think the explosion at the end of "Police Story 2" should have made the list.

Try Tremours 2. The final scene with the barn full of Shriekers. But the best is another of Sergio Leones 'destined for dust' bridges in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Watch for the blast wave dusting Clint and Eli's backside - no special effects there. Filmed twice apparently.

Jaws! Its a shark explosion in the water that defies physics, purely because explosions are cool and that's admirable.

There's also a really fantastic napalm fire-bombing of a village in Born to Fight, directed by the guy who did the fight coordination for Ong Bak.

That's right. A fantastic napalm strike. My inner pacifist just got punched in the face and tied to a chair in order to bring you that message.

One of the best is the train explosion in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. It's from such a great angle to see all the wood and crap just absolutely envelop the characters. Plus the line after that is just perfect

Totally agree on V for Vendetta...but i would have replaced a few of them. Two gut-wrenching explosions are featured in 'Knowing', the plane crash (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDqfmEd4fQ8) and then the one where the world is kind of engulfed by the sun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5j8nuUVByrU). I know it's not one of the best movies, but it's explosions deserve some attention.

I would like to mention the bridge explosion from Sergio Leones "Duck, You Sucker!". Of course you knew it was coming but the amount of anticipation created was incredible and the explosion was unbelievable.
