The Fat Guys bemoan the fact that certain studios have been withholding screenings of their films, while Neil unleashes a fit of rage against the quirky indie comedy Gigantic. He’ll never look at his dear Zooey Deschanel the same again.

If you are a sucker for a manic pixie dream girl, or just Zooey Deschanel in general, then this is going to be your movie of 2009.

First Independent Pictures has just released the trailer for Zooey’s newest movie, Gigantic… and it’s an unconventional story about oddballs in love, mattresses, and Chinese babies.

A few days ago my good friend Erik Davis posted this over at Cinematical — and all at once I was hit with nostalgia. Just a week ago (or so) I was sitting at the Eccles Theater in Park City, Utah enjoying a little bit of time with the undeniably charming film 500 Days of Summer.

Since our arrival in the snowy mountains of Utah I, along with many other temporary transplants from around the world, have been puzzled about one thing: the weather. It has been uncharacteristically warm and sunny in Park City, almost to the point of robbing us of that frigidity that makes it feel like Sundance. No one has been able to explain it, not even the weatherman. At least, not until now.

We’ve been checking out a ton of trailers lately, and this one hit us from left field. Like a baseball to the head. Except the good version of that.

Kevin Carr looks at Yes Man, Seven Pounds, The Tale of Despereaux and The Wrestler, in theaters this week with the FSR Report Card.

Jim Carrey goes back to the well with a Bruce Almighty, Liar Liar-esque performance in Yes Man, a comedy about saying yes to life — or at least, saying yes because Terrence Stamp says so.

The Happening isn’t a success, nor is it a total failure. It’s not quite a return to form, but compared to Shyamalan’s last two efforts, it is certainly a step in the right direction.

Something is happening. Something will be happening at The Happening if you follow these simple rules.
