Warner Bros

While fans of the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie starring Kristy Swanson may be ready to rejoice, fans of the Sarah Michelle Gellar television series are slamming fists and shedding tears at the news that Buffy is on her way back to the big screen with one caveat – Joss Whedon will not be involved. Personally I think there are two kinds of Buffy fans: those of us who saw the movie in theaters back in 1992, liked it and then never watched the TV series and those whose fandom is almost entirely related to their enjoyment of the television show. I count myself among the former, having never seen an episode of the television show – a trait I plan on having the rest of my life. Is it a good idea to bring Buffy back sans the man responsible for her popularity? Yes and no.

Warner Bros. must have some ridiculous confidence in the soon-to-be string of live-action/CGI hybrid films based on beloved toon characters. Most notably, the upcoming Yogi Bear (which looks slightly worse than awful, based on the trailers) and the previously announced Bug Bunny project. Now Vulture has a report that WB is looking to Mike Myers, man of funny accents (or master of a, singular funny accent) to voice the amorous skunk known as Pepé Le Pew. Here’s Sean O’Neal of The AV Club with the expected plot summary: “Pepé Le Pew, occasionally characterized by people who take these things too seriously as a racist caricature of a smelly French person, will once again work his date-rape-y wiles on Penelope Pussycat, with the two being the only computer animated members of a an otherwise live-action cast.” A 90-minute fart joke combined with 3D cartoony sleaziness? Should be… le sigh. Check the video after the jump for supporting video evidence.

The news that Natalie Portman might be in the running to play Lois Lane in the new Superman is a glimpse of hope for the franchise in a weary world. Sure, it would be fantastic. Portman can do just about anything and stands out as the rare movie star that can actually perform. The question is whether it’s worth it to get Darren Aronofsky to direct the film in order to make sure Portman takes on the role. Of course it’s not. In analyzing the possible directors, Aronofsky meets the dark criteria. However, he’s a talented but mercurial director who delivers movies that are only considered mainstream when compared to David Lynch, and he’s already proven that he can’t quite get a strong grip on an enormous scope or an enormous budget.

The first images from the Louisiana set of Warner Bros.’ Green Lantern have been slowly seeping their way onto the web. In a world — also known as The Internet — where we are constantly groaning at the prospect of filmmakers and studios rehashing, reinventing and repackaging just about any idea they can get their hands on, we should be applauding new ideas and approaches.

I’m willing to bet that most of you out there haven’t sat down and read Emily Post’s “Etiquette”, yet Warner Bros seems to think it’s a relevant enough name to make a movie around it. So what is this movie about, you ask? Why, it’s another story about an uptight woman trying to change a freewheeling man. Thank God – we haven’t had one of those for ages.

The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan has been a busy man for a while. He’s pumped out one great movie every year or so since 2005, and is now Hollywood’s hottest commodity. That is to say that he’s Warner Bros.’ biggest hired gun at the moment, as he preps his upcoming tentpole Inception for release. And it would appear as if WB is looking for Nolan to be not just the savior of their Batman franchise, but of their Superman frnachise as well.
