The successful biopic is something that takes a truly masterful hand to accomplish, but not many movies do it well. This week’s Culture Warrior asks why.

Another biopic enters the social psyche and the race for golden statues reserved for serious dramatic films. I hope this one doesn’t end in tragedy. I really need this one to have a happy ending!

Hollywood has been singing a tune in the key of music biopics for decades, most recently with this weekend’s release of the Christopher “Notorious BIG” Wallace biopic Notorious. We’re taking the opportunity to take a look at some of the best.

A few years back we got a film about a musician who over came great odds and family tragedy to become world renowned, well respected, a legend in his own lifetime. His life was not an easy one, it was fraught with drug abuse, infidelity, and just overall troubles, all despite his considerable music talent that connected with a legion of fans, and whose influence is felt to this day.
