Now that everyone and their talking dog has seen Up, it’s time to look at its context within film history and in the legacy of Pixar.

After a dismal start to the season, it looks like Pixar and Sam Raimi are restoring our faith that the Summer can pick itself up and dust itself off.

Since it is likely that many of you have had the chance to see Pixar’s latest gem Up — and if you’re like me, you may be heading out to see it again today — it is time to have a little discussion.

As expected and predicted by just about everyone, the rest of the field was looking Up — way Up — at yet another dominating Pixar performance at the box office.

Two Reject heavyweights go head to head on whether or not Pixar’s first is really worth all the hype it gets. Actually, they just argue like an old married couple about whether Toy Story is amazing or not and lob ad hominem attacks against that sweet, innocent, devilishly handsome Cole Abaius character.

The unprecedented has happened in the Magical Studio in the Sky. Not only has Neil seen as many movies this week as Kevin, but they also seem to agree on everything. Surely, this is a sign of the apocalypse. But have no fear. Kevin and Neil will be back with fighting words next week.

There is something about the craft of great storytelling, the truly magical nature of a tale so perfectly executed that just grabs the heart strings of its audience and never lets go. It’s rare, but something we should be used to from Pixar.

The obvious question this weekend is: will the box office go to hell, or will it go Up? Also — some more good Star Trek box office news.

A favorite reader of ours, Joe P., sent us in these seven awesome new images from Pixar’s next adventure Up, and we’ve since come to find out that they originated from a little Pixar fansite called Buzz & Cie. No matter where they came from though, the point is that they are absolutely gorgeous photos. It is fitting, as Up is a beautiful film — beautiful story, beautiful animation, beautiful everything. Just beautiful, top to bottom. And if you can’t tell, I’m also in the midst of writing a very glowing review of the film, as I had a chance to see it last night. This weekend’s new Pixar release, Up, is its 10th feature-length film since inception. We now present you with a brief history of Pixar’s successes (and let’s be honest, it’s mostly all successes with very little failing).

Here’s a tip: John Ratzenberger told UGO’s Rene Rosa today that the trailer will be debuting with Up. So go see Up.

Walt Disney Pictures has unleashed the full press kit for the upcoming Pixar film Up, which hits theaters on May 29th and will be making its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival tomorrow, May 13th. Inside said press kit they’ve included the final batch of images, 38 in total.

With so many 3D movies flooding into the theaters this year, the studios are scrambling to get their own 3D flicks noticed. The folks behind Disney/Pixar’s new animated masterpiece Up have found a cool and unique way to promote their upcoming film.
