Channel Guide: Five Comic Book Characters That Would Make Great TV
Features By Merrill Barr on April 27, 2011 | Comments (12)With Smallville ending in a few weeks, Human Target (unfortunately) hanging on by a the skin of its teeth in ratings, The Incredible Hulk in pre-production and the Wonder Woman pilot now shot and awaiting word on series pickup possibilities, this is a great time to discuss what other comic book franchises would be well served by a live action TV adaptation. So without any ado at all, I offer five comic book franchises that would make great TV and the networks that would make the best match.
Last week, Dr. Cole Abaius broke down the reasons why Wonder Woman has yet to receive the big screen treatment. But what about the small screen treatment? For the last few weeks a spec script for a brand new TV series adaptation of the D.C. legend has been floating around from network to network. The script is by TV big dog David E. Kelley. Well, the wait is over because on Friday, NBC announced that it has picked up Kelley’s script after he provided the network with the potential ratings big dog Harry’s Law.
Oh remakes. Certainly tons and tons have already been written about them. My hat’s in that ring too. I’ve said a few things here and there, though often I’ve gone against the grain. I don’t hate remakes. Some movies can be done better. When that’s the case, why not give it a shot? Did anyone think Mother’s Day was untouchable? Of course not. Then again, certain films can’t be made better. John Carpenter’s The Thing, itself a remake, is practically a perfect film. For now, classics like Casablanca and Gone with the Wind remain untouched, and that’s good. The odds of anyone making those particular stories better are low. Then there are the foreign films. Despite Rob Hunter’s best efforts, wide audiences aren’t really that interested in reading subtitles. Some films do quite well for themselves with subtitles, but whether it’s the audience or just the studios, subtitles don’t sell. So foreign films generally get short theatrical runs and DVD releases. If you want to see that story on the big screen, generally someone has to remake it. Or hey, there are plenty of completely unknown foreign films that are dug up and the stories remade, without many people even knowing that film already existed somewhere else. The point is this: sometimes remakes make sense. Sometimes they’re good. But in the modern age, with that series of tubes called the internet and a massive selection of titles available on DVD, domestic and imported, the speed at which films are being [Due to Content Scraping and Theft, we have been forced to try abbreviated feeds. Marvel Fires First, Norton Fires Back, Phoenix Might Hulk Out
Movie News By Cole Abaius on July 12, 2010 | Comments (10)If your eyebrow is raised from the news floating over the weekend that Edward Norton will not be returning to the Marvel fold as the lovable green menace for The Avengers, you’re probably not alone. We fans have been left standing in flustered silence at several of Marvel’s decisions, but this one might be the most nonsensical from an outsider’s point of view. We tried to gain some perspective, but my calls to Marvel went unreturned – either because they don’t care to comment or because I actually called a local pizza parlor to order lunch instead. Luckily, the studio released an incendiary statement and, like an old, shotgun-wielding man being robbed, Edward Norton fired back in a must-read pair of dueling press releases.

Plus, we manage to squeeze in a few minutes to review Despicable Me, I Am Love, and Predators. Check it out after the jump!
What The Avengers Will Be Like Without Edward Norton
Movie News By Neil Miller on July 9, 2010 | Comments (8)Not so good, if my calculations are correct. The news this evening is that Edward Norton, star of The Incredible Hulk, has been ousted for the role of Bruce Banner, also known as The Hulk for the upcoming Joss Whedon directed Avengers film, due out in 2012. But it’s not just that he’s out. Like Lebron James kicking Cleveland and his legacy to the curb, it’s about how the situation is being handled that matters. Apparently not only is Marvel not using Norton, they are keeping The Hulk. And get this — they are looking to hire an unknown in his place.

The Ten Most Memorable Scenes of 2008
Cinematic Listology By Kevin Carr on January 2, 2009 | Comments (54)With such a memorable year, it was hard to pick the top ten memorable scenes from all the films. The Incredible Hulk Smashes Up Your Blu-Ray Player
This Week in Blu-ray By Neil Miller on October 21, 2008 | Comments (5)The Incredible Hulk is one of those movies — the kind that you should probably be buying on Blu-ray either way. Though, it would certainly be the laziest review of my career if I were to just chalk this up to ‘see it because its in HD’, so I will attempt to break it down a bit.
