When Awards season rolls around, Robert Fure always wins “Most Rage Filled Rant.” What is both obvious and sad is that he created the award and is the only one who votes on the winner.

Today brings a host of new awards nominations with both the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the American Society of Cinematographers (ACE) announcing nominees for their respective 2009 awards.

When I look back through this past year, one film easily rises above the rest in the realm of soundtrack: The Dark Knight. The following video gives us a behind the soundboard look at the creation of The Joker’s theme.

Fans of The Dark Knight were pleased to find out that The Producers Guild of America (PGA) nominated it as one of the five best films of the year, right alongside Slumdog Millionaire, Frost/Nixon, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Milk.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released the names of the 7 finalist in the Visual Effects category.

Earlier today I posted 2008: The Cinescape, a fan made dedication to some of the more iconic films of 2008. This afternoon I received word that another such video has appeared online, from YouTubian Kees van Dijkhuizen.

With such a memorable year, it was hard to pick the top ten memorable scenes from all the films. Of course, to be fair, I had to choose only one scene from any given movie (otherwise, The Dark Knight would easily take five or six spots on the list).

You may remember last year when one adventurous fan created 2007: A Year for Drama, a pretty cool little video montage of some of the year’s more memorable films. That same guy is back this year with 2008: The Cinescape, a similar montage set to Sigur Ros.

I love nearly everything about Austin,Texas. Now one more thing to adore is their choices of films to award, starting with The Dark Knight.

The folks at the Internet Movie Database, our one and only source of facts about film (we also farm our opinions from the message boards, mind you), have released the list of the Top 25 Most Searched Movies of 2008. Topping the list is… drum roll… The Dark Knight. No surprise there.

The American Film Institute (AFI) responsible for those “100 Years, 100 _____” lists that get people riled up every year have come out with their list of 2008′s top films.
