In this edition of This Week in Blu-ray, it is time to usher in the month of September with a swath of TV-on-BD, a forecast for the weeks to come as the fall television season heats up.

Rob Hunter loves movies. He also loves training friends and strangers alike in the deadly and mystical way of Jewish martial arts. These two joys come together in the form of cash money payments that he receives every week and immediately uses to buy more DVDs. This week we have Sin Nombre, Good Dick, and Israeli Martial Artists!

Well, the box office numbers are in and it’s not that big a surprise for a lot of people this weekend as that Zac Efron movie 17 Again finished on top of the charts with $24 million, basically what was expected.

For all intents and purposes, this film is getting a lot of positive reviews that, upon reading, aren’t really positive at all. Why would a film that champions newspaper reporting get such praise from newspaper-based critics?

Kevin Carr reviews this week’s new movies: State of Play, Crank: High Voltage and 17 Again.

When veteran print reporter Cal McAffrey (Russell Crowe) begins investigating the murder of a young drug addict and notes connections to a story regarding the supposedly accidental death of one of Congressman Stephen Collins’s (Ben Affleck) aides, he teams up with the newspaper’s political blogger Della Frye (Rachel McAdams) and digs deep enough to find a major corporate conspiracy that threatens the democrat nature of our homeland security.

Neil has his tail between his legs because he hasn’t seen any movies this week, but he still maintains that he is awesome. Kevin enjoyed a nice dose of Zefron, and the Fat Guys remember two important things: If you white, you Ben Affleck; and Chic-fil-A is delicious!

This week John predicts that die-hard fans may care about Crank: High Voltage, State of Play and 17 Again. But after a few weeks of big hits, we are due for a down weekend and he thinks this might be it.

For fun, having already watched the trailer, watch it again… but this time imagine Brad Pitt as the reporter and Ed Norton as the Congressman. They were originally cast in the roles but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. It would have been their first onscreen reunion after Fight Club.

First and foremost you have to ask yourself what kind of frame of mind poor old Brad Pitt is in these days?
