In celebration of today’s release of Star Trek on Blu-ray and DVD, Paramount held a special event in Los Angeles last night in which director J.J. Abrams and various members of the cast were on hand to present some of the cool special features to a group of fans and journalists.

There are few sure things in this world. In the world of film, there are even fewer sure things, but one can usually “put five on” the fact that any project J.J. Abrams is involved in will turn out fairly well – critically, commercially, or both.

In seeking out an allegory for Star Trek 2, wouldn’t it be nice if they left leftist politics and the subject of torture alone? You said, yes? You may not want to read this then.

Could the team that brought up Star Trek be partnering with the team that brought us Iron Man? Downey Jr is already on board and Favreau might just be signing on the dotted line soon enough for aliens in the Old West.

Judging by their output for Star Trek, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and The Proposal all in one summer, it seems like screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman don’t sleep. And they won’t get to anytime soon. We caught them not napping in order to ask them about writing for Michael Bay and their upcoming Cowboys and Aliens.
