The Sound of ‘The Avengers’: Soundworks Explores The Roar of Summer’s First Big Film
Movie News By Neil Miller on May 8, 2012 | Be the First To CommentThe fascinating thing about talking of ‘The Sound of The Avengers‘ is that this featurette from the folks at The Soundworks Collection makes the entire affair sound much better than what’s described in our own Cole Abaius’ criticism of the film’s audible elements. Having seen the film twice now, I’m inclined to disagree with our managing editor on the sound. Alan Silvestri’s score is subtle, at best, and for all its faults it doesn’t get in the way. But the sound design work from Christopher Boyes and the folks at Skywalker sound was an immense task. Not only did the have to create many new sounds for the world of The Avengers, they also had to integrate five films worth of a sound library from previous Marvel Studios films. Stuff like Iron Man’s pulse stabilizer sounds and the resonance of Captain America’s shield. It’s all part of a sound designer’s job, all part of the great work you’ll see explained in the video below.
