Listen to Adele Get Moody With Her James Bond ‘Skyfall’ Theme
Movie Music By Neil Miller on October 4, 2012 | Comments (2)If there’s one theme that emerges from the Skyfall theme from British crooner Adele — which you can listen to below — it’s that the end is coming. But what is it, exactly, that’s ending? Surely not the time of Daniel Craig’s James Bond era. Nor the Bond franchise, both of which will go on long after the Sam Mendes 23rd film in the franchise. What it has to do with the movie, we don’t yet know, but it’s a fun thought exercise. Beyond that, the new theme is moody, melodic and full of grande promises about the nature of the November release.
Know Your Bond: A Guide to the Actors Who Played 007
Countdown to Skyfall By Kevin Carr on September 26, 2012 | Comments (2)Not only are FSR’s resident Bond nerds (specifically yours truly and my partner in espionage, Brian Salisbury) gearing up for the release of Skyfall in November, but we are also rubbing our hands together with anticipation of opening our new Bond 50 Blu-ray box sets that came out this week. Since we’re in the movie news business, we can watch all 22 of these films, we can chalk up the 40+ hours of movie watching to a full work week. We bet you’re feeling an extreme amount of jealousy right now (or an extreme amount of pity for us… not quite sure which). But as we prepare to watch all the James Bond movies again, we’ll also reflect upon the different actors who have played James Bond in the past. Here’s a quick breakdown of the legendary (and one not-so-legendary) Bond actors over the years. Fortunately, since Daniel Craig has signed on for some additional post-Skyfall movies, this piece should still be relevant for a while, and that’s a valuable commodity in the ever-changing world of the Internet.

So, come on baby, let’s go back to the start and give the past week of Film School Rejects a second chance. But first, we want to remind you of the category links on this page that will help you find the most recent reviews (including new releases Dredd 3D, End of Watch and The Perks of Being a Wallflower) and trailers (new spots for The Hobbit and The Life of Pi included) as well as the sidebar of all your favorite columns. And, of course, this week brought the start of Fantastic Fest, so you’ll want to look back on what films we’ve covered so far, such as Frankenweenie and Holy Motors. Keep this link handy through the next five days or so.
License To Quiz: 21 Trivial Facts All Bond Fans Should Know
Countdown to Skyfall By Brian Salisbury on September 19, 2012 | Comments (4)This is a glorious year, and not just because we’re like 56% sure that the Mayans are incorrect with their calculation that the world will end. Their apocalyptic inaccuracy notwithstanding, this November, the sky will fall. For this, ladies and junior mints, is the year of Skyfall. Any year that boasts the release of a new James Bond film is one of note. But the turmoil experienced by MGM, which jeopardized this celebrated franchise’s future, it’s especially exciting to be but mere months away from the release of the twenty-third installment. Here at FSR, we are Bond nerds. More specifically Mr. Kevin Carr and myself are absolute James Bond freaks. We will therefore be celebrating the impending release of Skyfall every week with various articles about the Bond universe until that fateful November 9th. To kick things off, we thought we’d help you hold your own against Bond nerds you may encounter in your own life. The great thing about these films is that no matter your level of cinephilia, if you’ve resided on planet Earth throughout a goodly portion of your life you are bound to have seen at least one or two of 007′s movies. We’d even hazard you’ve liked a couple. However, whenever you cross paths with someone as obsessed with Britain’s deadliest cinematic spy as Kevin and I are, calling yourself a fan is an invitation for interrogation. Immediately they will begin firing trivia questions at you designed to test your Bond mettle. Here are a
Movie News After Dark: Dredd, You’re Next, Oogieloves, Skyfall, Looper Art and Fantastic Fest Bumpers
Movie News By Neil Miller on September 14, 2012 | Comments (1)What is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly news column that doesn’t always have something to say. But when it does, the geeks of the world listen. We begin this evening with some great DREDD concept art found by the folks at Comic Book Movie, picked up via Germain Lussier’s ever-excellent Superhero Bits column. The excitement I have for this, one of Fantastic Fest’s big name films, has gone through the roof as more reactions come in, including that of our own Nathan Adams at TIFF.
Movie News After Dark: Shirtless Bond, Hover Boards, Star Trek Kids and Blade Runner on Blu
Movie News By Neil Miller on September 10, 2012 | Comments (2)What is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly column that tracks movie news and other, slightly more interesting editorials from around the web. It hates starting the week with a slow news day, but sometimes that’s what you get. Our evening begins with a shot from Skyfall, courtesy of Empire. They’ve released five new images from the upcoming James Bond adventure, including this somewhat alluring shot of Daniel Craig and Naomie Harris. Look for more on their site and in their upcoming issue.
Daniel Craig is Once, Twice, Five Times Your James Bond
Movie News By Nathan Adams on September 6, 2012 | Comments (8)The James Bond franchise has been going on for so long now that it’s started to look like an ever-changing monstrosity of different corporate influences, creative strategies, and leading men. But, in its current star Daniel Craig, its current, grittier creative direction, and its current co-financing deal between Sony Pictures and MGM, this series of spy films has seemed to have found a moment of stability; and a report from Bond-centric site MI6 says that a deal has been struck that will keep that stability going, at least for a little while longer.
Movie News After Dark: The Greendale Gang, John Williams, Bond Posters and Hitchcock Death Scenes
Movie News By Neil Miller on August 13, 2012 | Be the First To CommentWhat is Movie News After Dark? It’s working on writing its own epic climax, but it’s still wallowing in a very slow, methodical first act. Luckily, there will be news to report along the way. We begin tonight with a look at the first table read for the upcoming season of Community, which was tweeted out by the show’s official account early this evening. Noticeably absent is show creator Dan Harmon, who has since been let go from the cult sensation he birthed. All the same, it will still be nice to see the Greendale gang back in action.
Full ‘Skyfall’ Trailer: Javier Bardem’s Hair is Ridiculous So the Movie Must Be Good
Movie News By Scott Beggs on July 31, 2012 | Comments (3)With the new trailer for Skyfall, director Sam Mendes and the hairstylists have recognized the true method to ensuring Javier Bardem is a terrifying villain: give him the most ridiculous haircut possible. There’s no telling what sort of dastardly work he’s up to here, or what James Bond will have to do to stop him, but none of that matters because it’s all overshadowed by the kind of blond wig Dave Chapelle used when he was doing whiteface. It’s like what Donald Trump would look like if he never went thin on top. How do those back goosebumps feel? Of course the real star of this trailer is Roger Deakins‘ cinematography, followed closely by Daniel Craig in a death-defying turn as 007. Check it out for yourself:
New ‘Skyfall’ Teaser Shows 007 Reporting For Duty, Again
Movie Trailers By Rob Hunter on July 28, 2012 | Comments (2)One of this fall/winter’s more anticipated films for action junkies is the new James Bond movie, Skyfall. This time around, Bond’s 23rd to be exact, the titular agent is tasked with protecting M and looking cool while doing it. He may also get to slip in a quick shower or two with an attractive woman between all the shooting, running and falling out of things. The official synopsis is here: Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.” Sam Mendes directs Daniel Craig in his third go round as Bond, and they’re joined by Javier Bardem, Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, Naomie Harris and Ben Whishaw. Check below for the new Skyfall teaser that aired during last night’s Olympic Games opening ceremonies. It was a nice pairing with the Bond-themed video featuring Craig escorting the Queen to the games by helicopter before the duo skydived down to join the masses.
Movie News After Dark: Bond’s Gadget Man, Vulcan Emoticons, Breaking Bad and The Dark Knight Rises
Movie News By Neil Miller on July 17, 2012 | Comments (5)What is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly column dedicated to movie news and notes that is beginning to think that they Comic-Con hangover is in full-effect. It’s all Dark Knight out there. We begin this evening with a shot of Ben Wishaw in Skyfall as gadgetmaster Q, a photo that’s been out for a bit but somehow we missed covering it. It’s a very youthful take on Q, but one that will benefit from Wishaw’s chops, as seen in films like Layer Cake.
Comic-Con News After Dark: Television Dominates, Triple-Breasted Booth Babes and New ‘Game of Thrones’ Cast!
Comic-Con By Neil Miller on July 13, 2012 | Comments (1)What is Comic-Con News After Dark? It’s taking over for a few days while Movie News After Dark goes off into the wilderness to find stories unrelated to Doctor Who. It’s taken focus a little too seriously. Also, Comic-Con News After Dark already has plenty of news about Doctor Who, including… Tonight’s top photo: Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill and Matt Smith, best known as the cast of BBC’s Doctor Who. They appeared today at Comic-Con looking cool. Sunglasses are cool. Also, Karen is my dream girl.
‘Skyfall’ Teaser Trailer Plays Word Association with Bond and a Bullet
Movie News By Scott Beggs on May 21, 2012 | Be the First To CommentThe most striking thing about the new Skyfall trailer is the beauty. Yes, there’s the beast. The brawn. Daniel Craig still looks hulking and dark as James Bond, but the trailer shows off some truly gorgeous shots without giving them all away. That’s what happens when you hire Sam Mendes to direct and Roger Deakins to director photography. The latest entry in the Bond franchise sees M’s past coming to haunt everyone and 007 attempting to kill the people trying to kill him. This time, you know, it’s personal. Now see if you can spot any shaky-cam. Check out the trailer for yourself (as if you’ve bothered to read any of this anyway):
Movie News After Dark: In Which The Avengers Take Over, Come to the Rescue
Movie News By Neil Miller on May 2, 2012 | Comments (2)What is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly column that serves at the pleasure of the internet’s biggest film nerds. Currently those nerds are waiting with baited breath for the release of The Avengers. So why wouldn’t we turn a big, shiny lens toward Joss Whedon’s summer kick-off event film? Okay, lets do that… Now that The Avengers has already earned $260.5M overseas, it’s time for it to take over Movie News After Dark. As if it hasn’t been creeping its way in already. Tonight’s edition of the beloved movie news round-up column isn’t 100% populated by Avengers news, but it’s close enough. And it’s only Wednesday. We begin above with a shot from the film in question, featuring Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Captain America (Chris Evans) in the midst of battle. Needless to say, this all has me yearning to see the film again. It’s quite fun.
Movie News After Dark: Hopkins as Hitchcock, Skyfall, Arrested Development, An IKEA TV, Mondo Avengers and a State Home for Manic Pixie Dreamgirls
Movie News By Neil Miller on April 18, 2012 | Comments (1)What is Movie News After Dark? A lot of nightly movie news columns are about life, this one is like a slice of cake. We begin tonight with the master himself, Alfred Hitchcock. More appropriately, we begin with Anthony Hopkins as Alfred Hitchcock in Sacha Gervasi’s Hitchcock, the story of the making of Psycho. He’s got a bit of the look, in so much as he had the Nixon look. But as we know, even if he looks like Don Rickles playing Alfred Hitchcock, he’s likely to bring the thunda.
Chill Out: James Bond Even Drank a Mint Julep Once
Boiling Point By Robert Fure on April 9, 2012 | Comments (6)In a world with nothing much of interest happening (apparently), the internet got all aflutter when it was announced that James Bond would drink a Heineken in Skyfall. People everywhere were freaking the hell out while “news” outlets capitalized on the fact that they have no integrity by plastering misleading headlines everywhere. Just like this one: James Bond Will Swig a Heineken Instead of a Martini. That’s from Time Magazine’s online presence. People used to respect Time Magazine. I say used to assuming that there’s only so much bullshit one can suffer before you stop respecting something. Granted, this is “only” the on-line face of Time Magazine, but hey, it’s a slippery slope, right? Here’s what we know: Heineken has secured a product placement deal with Skyfall. In one scene, James Bond will drink a Heineken. I’m not sure how that translates into “Bond will no longer drink martinis and will instead only drink Heineken beer forever and ever.” I mean, unless you don’t give a shit about accurately reporting stories. Then you might as well headline “Skyfall to feature Heineken Advertising Everywhere and Bond Hates Vodka and Drinks Beer and Also He Might Be Gay Now.” Because why not? Granted – exaggeration. But so is saying Bond is drinking beer instead of martinis.
Thanks to Product Placement, James Bond Will Be Drinking Beer in ‘Skyfall’
Movie News By Scott Beggs on April 2, 2012 | Be the First To CommentIt’s been a long, shaken-not-stirred run, but according to AdAge, James Bond will be enjoying an ice cold Heineken “at least in one scene.” Skyfall is part of a larger marketing campaign by the booze brand, but there’s a question of whether this changes Bond’s image. But why should it? Bond is the prototypical man’s man. The new slightly-more-Bourne-like era of action where Daniel Craig has taken the reigns has done more to change the character than a simple sip will. Now, if they start having him introduce himself first name first, that would be a real travesty.
Movie News After Dark: 80s Horror Icons Get Old, Klosterman on Don Draper, Paul Scheer’s Breaking GIFs and Meet Your New Bond Girls
Movie News By Neil Miller on March 29, 2012 | Be the First To CommentWhat is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly link round-up column that has a severe addiction to ice cream. And Ron Burgundy’s mustache. We begin this evening with a bit of silliness in the form of photographer Federic Chiesa’s 80s horror movie icons as creepy senior citizens. He leaves no stone unturned — from a drunk old Freddie to a homeless, still masked Jason — and has created something quite fun. The creepiest of all of these is the one above, featuring the little girls from The Shining, all grown up. Not the actual girls — at least not that we know of — but creepy, all the same.
Double Oh! 7 Essential Bits of James Bond Merchandise
Features By Simon Gallagher on March 18, 2012 | Comments (1)I invite you to imagine a scene for a minute: a handsome man, with the kind of chiseled chin you could sharpen spoons on in an embarrassingly fine suit whose intricate detail blinded three tailors in the making sits at a Texas Holdem table, sucking daintily on a Vesper and with a cigarette lit for ornamentation. A gun presses into his ribs, another comfortably into his calf, and about his person are secreted millions of pounds worth of the British Intelligence Service’s most impressive, and most secret inventions. His smile cuts knowingly across an impeccably handsome face, eyes taking in infinitely more than his lush demeanor lets on as he imperceptibly stalks his prey. He is Bond, and no matter what you do about it, he is always going to be cooler than you. So, why the hell wouldn’t you want to make your life as close to his as possible? Your paunch might say more Gandalfini than Bond, and your social awkwardness would probably be the first, largest stumbling block in your application to MI5, but through the magpie-like acquisition of many fine pieces of James Bond merchandise, you too could pretend like a boss. And wouldn’t you know it, that’s precisely what this week’s Merch Hunter column is devoted to…
Movie News After Dark: Javier The Bond Villain, Game of Thrones and The Entertainment Event of the Year
Movie News By Neil Miller on March 12, 2012 | Be the First To CommentWhat is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly movie news column that usually has more to say. But it’s a little hung over from SXSW and a little out of practice, as it took most of last week off. That said, it’s keepin’ it weird. We begin this evening with a first look at Javier Bardem as a Bond villain. He’s looking pretty skeevy. Also sinister, very sinister.
