15 Answers to the Questions Keeping Hollywood Awake in 2012
Features By Cole Abaius on January 19, 2012 | Comments (8)Although the real question keeping Hollywood awake in 2012 is “Does Winston Wolf clean up dead hookers on Yom Kippur?”, the fine folks over at HitFix have put forth a handful of queries of varying importance which filmmakers, studios and fans might have on their minds this year. It’s their 15 Questions Keeping Hollywood Awake in 2012. With concerns from Lindsay Lohan’s possible last chance to Joss Whedon’s first real shot with The Avengers, it’s an intriguing list that might prove 2012 to be both an endlessly fascinating and completely irrelevant year in the stories behind the movies. Will Smith, Found Footage, Hunger Games, Dark Knight Rises and more. HitFix has questions, and here are the answers:
Disney’s ‘Tangled’ to Get a Short Film Sequel Attached to ‘Beauty and the Beast 3D’
Movie News By Nathan Adams on November 14, 2011 | Comments (3)If you look at the box office numbers that Disney’s 3D re-release of The Lion King did not too long ago, it’s clear that there is more than a little interest out there for seeing some of the studio’s classic efforts being once again released on the big screen. So Beauty and the Beast 3D probably doesn’t need any assistance when it comes to drawing families to the theaters. Regardless, an announcement that Walt Disney Pictures made today confirms that it’s going to get some heavyweight help whether it needs it or not. Disney’s animation department has hit a bit of a slump in the last decade, not being able to recreate the magic of its classic releases or its second golden age that came in the 90s; but one film that has bucked the trend of disappointment and gone on to become quite a success is the studio’s retelling of the Rapunzel legend Tangled. The film was a success financially, praised critically, and I myself know a two-year-old little girl who watches it about three times a day. So she and millions of other little kids will undoubtedly be thrilled to hear that an animated short, Tangled Ever After, is going to be released in front of Beauty and the Beast 3D come January 13th.
‘Ghostbusters’ Heading Back to the Big Screen Just in Time for Halloween
Movie News By Nathan Adams on September 22, 2011 | Comments (1)If there’s one great truth in the world that is absolutely indisputable, it’s that everyone loves Ghostbusters. It makes sense then that Sony would want to make as much money off of that love as possible. To that end, there’s good news both for fans of the film (everyone) and Sony’s pocketbooks, because the studio has announced via press release that they will be doing a theatrical re-release of the Ivan Reitman-directed classic on three dates this October. On Thursday, October 13th, and for the next two Thursdays after that, Ghostbusters will be playing once a day in a theater (hopefully) near you. That’s three chances you have this October to see Venkman get slimed up on the big screen, three chances to hear Egon say he collects spores, molds, and fungus on a booming sound system. There isn’t yet any word on which theaters the film will be playing in, but Sony says that it will be hitting 500 theaters in the U.S., and also various theaters in Canada and around the globe as well. You are to check your local listings for showings.
Boiling Point: ‘Titanic 3D’ is Everything That’s Wrong with Hollywood
Boiling Point By Robert Fure on May 23, 2011 | Comments (13)News came over the last couple of days that former visionary director/current enviro-geek James Cameron was going to, instead of directing a new film (wouldn’t want to accidentally make two in a decade), spend millions of dollars and millions of seconds painstakingly bringing 1997s short film Titanic back to the screens, this time in three dimensions. In case you weren’t alive between 1997 and 1999, where Titanic stayed in theaters for a full year, the story has something to do with a boat, a gem, and freezing to death. I’m sure that if you’re reading this site you’ve either seen Titanic or know enough about it to know that you didn’t want to watch it. I have seen it and have no desire to see it again. It’s not a bad film, but it is long as hell and a bit on the melodramatic side. Aside from being responsible for turning Leonardo DiCaprio into a household name and making all my ex-girlfriends put posters of him on their walls, what could be wrong with Titanic coming back to the big screen? Simply put, Titanic 3D is everything wrong with Hollywood in a tight 194 minute package.
