If you woke up this morning and felt you needed to see a trailer frothing over with semen jokes, it’s as if the planets have aligned to tell you that you need more therapy and that the redband trailer for Babymakers has poked its little head out onto the internet. This is the Broken Lizard movie that isn’t a Broken Lizard movie. Instead of the gang from Beerfest trying to impregnate everyone, it stars Olivia Munn and Paul Schneider (Away We Go, Lars and the Real Girl) as a couple who have trouble conceiving. Fortunately, Schneider’s character donated a bunch of great sperm years ago. Unfortunately, it’s all gone, so he has to try to steal some of it back. Good old Kevin “Farva” Heffernan is on board as the sidekick, and Jay Chandrasekhar is directing and playing an Indian mafia killer (complete with genuine Indian accent!). As for the rest of the Broken Lizard gang, they look like they’re relegated to the background here. Check out the trailer for yourself:

30 Minutes or Less is a movie that takes risks. In a flat landscape of studio movies that seem mostly to be shoved into a formula that doesn’t quite work anymore, watching this film is like drinking an ice cold lemonade on a hot summer day that’s been spiked with stuff that would put hair on your chest. For all the laughs and gore of Zombieland, director Ruben Fleischer seems to have taken this comedy about a pizza boy forced to rob a bank simply to further prove he can get away with anything he wants. And he gets away with it, because the movies he makes are damned funny. This is a film for adults that grabs its anatomy, goes about its business, and doesn’t care to cater to any particular sensibility. It’s because of that attitude that it all works so well. The direction, the actors, and the writing commit fully to the premise, and sells us on the bit by sheer willpower (and a healthy amount of adult language and situations).

Looks like there’s going to be a new R-rated movie about frat houses and the hijinx inherent in the ridiculous notion of a bunch of 19-year-old dudes living together in one big building. Here’s how the story has developed so far. First, a couple of guys named Andrew Cohen and Brendan O’Brien wrote a script for the movie. It’s about a regular-guy family man whose house is unfortunately located directly next to a local college’s alpha male fraternity house. This, of course, leads to him coming into conflict with the young, party happy frat boys, and presumably some tale of living, loving, and learning results. After putting pen to paper, the writing duo then pitched the project to Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, those guys behind Superbad and Pineapple Express and whatnot. They liked it and attached Rogen himself to star as the family man of the film and High School Musical’s Zac Efron as the head frat guy.
