Channel Guide: Watching ‘Power Rangers’ Through Adult Eyes
Features By Merrill Barr on June 18, 2011 | Comments (105)I made a wonderful discovery on Netflix this week. A discovery that caused a flood of childhood memories to re-enter my brain. Memories that I haven’t felt in a long, long time. No, it wasn’t at the hands of James Mcavoy, but rather at the hands of five teenagers with attitude. It was at the hands of the Power Rangers. Recently, Netflix has begun streaming every iteration of the franchise from 1993 through 2009. And that includes the two feature length films. I don’t know what these two words mean to the rest of you, but to me, Power Rangers bring up memories like walking around my suburban streets dressed as the Red Ranger on Halloween at the age of five, making cardboard laser guns and begging my parents to buy me the toy morphers at Toys R’ Us. If you were a child of the 90s, you most likely lived and breathed this franchise. That was the generally accepted opinion (or my fantasy wish that it was).
If you’re going to promise me a super villain, you’d better make him super. Easily knocked out heavy hitters leave me raging.
