The folks at the Alamo Drafthouse have officially announced today that the Sundance sensation Mystery Team will be making its debut here in Austin at the Alamo Ritz on Friday, August 28th.

The folks from Derrick Comedy have released a brand new theatrical trailer for their upcoming film Mystery Team, one of my favorite films of 2009 thus far. As you will see in this new green band trailer, there are plenty of hilarious one liners — some of which will make you laugh without any context at all.

While the official Comic-Con ‘09 schedule of events won’t be online until next week, we have been receiving a stream of emails from studio contacts and other back-alley scoopers, all telling us what we should be seeing when we’re cramming into the world famous Hall H.

More exciting news from our friends over at Derrick Comedy today, as it has now been announced that director Dan Eckman, writers/stars Dominic Dierkes, Donald Glover and DC Pierson, and producer Meggie McFadden will be appearing on a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con next month.

The folks from the Derrick Comedy group just sent over word about a series of screenings that they will be holding for their film Mystery Team next week in New York City. And as you know, this is one of the most talked about films from this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

Before I made my trip to Park City, Utah for the 2009 Sundance Film Festival I gave you a list of the 13 films I was most interested in seeing. And now that I’ve come and gone, surviving another year in the hustle and bustle of America’s great festival, it is my duty to bookend my coverage with a list of the best films of this year’s fest.

One of my favorite things about attending Sundance is the opportunity to meet and see filmmakers who are genuinely excited to bring their film to the public. Among this year’s entries is Mystery Team, a dark and clever comedy from the Derrick Comedy group, a troupe of comics on the verge of a major breakout.

There are a lot of films playing at Sundance over the next two weeks. And personally I’ve watered down all of the information to a list of 37 films that I intend to see. I’ve gone even further for this article, pinpointing 13 films that I would recommend to all of you based on early word of mouth, pedigree of its cast/crew or just my own intuition.

Park City at Midnight offers eight films that are likely to amuse, surprise, or shock the bleary-eyed viewer and offer a lively last stop in the nightly film-going circuit.
