As May 7 draws closer, it is safe to assume that we’ll be writing more and more about Iron Man 2. As was the case with the first Iron Man film in 2008, there was an epic marketing push down the stretch. It’s hard to ignore it as well, because everything we’re seeing from Iron Man 2 looks great. And we’re just as excited as you are, so we’ll keep bringing you the good stuff as it is released.

Earlier today, Paramount Pictures released their final press kit for Iron Man 2, and with it come a few brand new pictures. There are also some old pictures. All of them are in very high resolution, which I’m sure will interest some of our readers — as high resolution photos of everyone’s favorite badass tin can make for sweet desktop wallpapers. Amirite?

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios have released today the international theatrical poster for Iron Man 2, which is quickly approaching its release date. It’s hard to believe that it’s only about six weeks away at this point, but it is.

In a manner of speaking, it is perfectly acceptable for someone like Tony Stark to upstage the Oscar ceremonies — it fits with his modus operandi perfectly. And while I will accept the fact that Tony Stark is a fictional character played by Robert Downey Jr. and the Academy Awards are very (mostly) real, the assessment still stands: this brand new Iron Man 2 trailer, which debuted on Jimmy Kimmel Live this evening, is far more exciting than the Oscars.

An alien invasion in the time of the old west? Script from the Star Trek trio, directed by the Iron Man guy, starring James Bond and Thirteen from House? No analysis needed… start shooting, Mr. Favreau.

It seems like a foregone conclusion, but now we have official word. Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures will distribute Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2 in IMAX theaters simultaneously with the film’s release on May 7, 2010.

Iron Man is back. And while I’m not exactly soiling myself over the first trailer for the sequel to Jon Favreau’s fantastic 2008 superhero flick, I am excited. And you should be, too.

Some days it doesn’t take much. In fact, when the news is slow here in the movie blogosphere, a trailer-for-a-trailer is all that you need to make a big splash, especially when it’s for a movie like Iron Man 2.

Sure, Avatar is the big movie of the month. The talk of the town, the bee’s knees. And Fox is licking their chops for a gigantic opening. But that won’t stop Paramount from stealing a bit of thunder by releasing promo material’s for next year’s summer opener, Iron Man 2.
