There’s a scene (video below) midway through the Doris Day-Rock Hudson romantic comedy Pillow Talk (1959) that has always fascinated me. Through the benefit of hindsight, it’s impossible to watch the scene as it was viewed contemporaneous to its release.

Welcome to FSR’s newest weekly feature in which I break down the good, the bad, and the ugly of what Hollywood has to offer.

What can I say? It was another winning performance at the box office for Tina Fey as Baby Mama won with an $18 million gross. And as usual, it was another losing performance at the theaters for Harold and Kumar, whose Escape from Guantanamo Bay wound up trailing in second with $14.5 million. But don’t worry, I’m sure they’ll do well on DVD.

I suppose you can say that the core Harold and Kumar audience of stoners and slackers will enjoy the rude humor and drug references, but the rest of us clean and sober folks are going to be left cold.

Neil Patrick Harris demands that you pay this game in some form. And who can argue with NPH? Surely not us mere mortals.

This weekend looks to be a bit of a disappointment at the cash register, I am sad to say. All the die-hard movie fans out there would really like to see Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay do well, but it has stiff competition from Baby Mama and from Deception, the other new movies this weekend.
