Giveaway: See an Advanced Screening of ‘Salmon Fishing in the Yemen’ On Us
Features By Scott Beggs on March 3, 2012 | Comments (1)Do you live in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia or San Francisco? If not, do you mind driving to them for a Lasse Hallström movie? If so, pack up some beef jerky, energy drinks and the What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? soundtrack because you’re in for the wildest road trip of your life. And when you get to one of those cities, we’ll get you into a free advanced screening of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen – Hallström’s new flick starring Ewan MacGregor and Emily Blunt which tells the story of a fishing expert charged with bringing the sport of fly fishing to the desert by a Sheik. What do you have to do? Email me with a subject heading “I Want to Go Salmon Fishing” and give me your name and the city you’ll be in on Tuesday (3/6) or Thursday (3/8) in or around the evening time. First come, first served. Plus, you can bring a +1. A spouse, a girlfriend or boyfriend, a family member, maybe a stranger you meet on the subway and fall deeply in love with because of us and this movie? Or, if you’re planning on attending the San Francisco screening, maybe a giant naked woman who just stomped on your car. That’s up to you! By that, we mean we’re not liable for any damage done to your car when the giant naked woman is overwhelmed with emotion by the movie.
Reel Sex: 5 Unexpectedly Sexy Sex Scenes
Features By Gwen Reyes on September 14, 2011 | Comments (4)As many fellow conflicted yet faithful Netflix subscribers know, last week marked the beginning of the separation of Instant and disc-only memberships. I had been trying to whittle down my streaming queue for a few months, but we all know that is a nearly impossible task with that devilish recommendation list appearing every time you go to the site’s homepage. Suffice it to say, my queue had actually grown since the announcement, making the budgeting decision for me. One of the films at the top of my queue was 2010’s long-awaited gay love story I love You Phillip Morris starring the forever not-sexy Jim Carrey and the always delicious Ewan McGregor as two convicts head-over-heels in love with each other. I could spend an entire column writing about this rapid, surprisingly honest and tender romance sprinkled with deception and humor, however my greatest take away from this man on man sexiness was the unexpectedly hot chemistry (and subsequent love scenes) between Carrey and McGregor.
‘Haywire’ Trailer Betrays the Country’s Most Dangerous Weapon
Comic-Con By Scott Beggs on July 22, 2011 | Comments (4)Steven Soderbergh is perhaps the most versatile director working today. He hates to be pinned down, he enjoys non-actors acting, and he revels in action as much as dialogue. With Haywire it seems he gets to combine a lot of his creative interests into one throat-crushing experience. The trailer has hit, and it feels like every story ever told about an agent that’s the best of the best of the best being taken out back by her government. Of course, when it all goes wrong, she wants to know why and seek revenge. Beat by beat, it’s been told a hundred times, but Soderbergh is also a storyteller with tricks up his sleeve, and as for pure action, Gina Carano looks like she’ll pull everyone’s kidneys out through the hole she rips in their shoulders. Check out the trailer for yourself:
