Let me start off by saying that I’m not a big fan of stoner movies. For that matter, I’m not a big fan of stoners, period. Does that make me an old fart? Perhaps, but at least you know where I’m coming from.

Let’s just assume that most die-hard fans of the Pineapple Express genre aren’t necessarily going to be drinking while seeing this movie. But for those of you who want to enjoy a stoner action flick whilst drunk, here’s a chance.

Will Ferrel gets his big break co-directing episodes of his new HBO comedy series, “Eastbound and Down,” with longtime pal Adam McKay.

“You should make a weed action movie,” Judd Apatow said to Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, and thus was birthed Pineapple Express.

I sat and watched Pineapple Express at a special screening last night. First off, it was just as funny as you might expect. Secondly, the film was followed by a Q&A with the film’s stars, director and producer.

Today we get our first listen of the Pineapple Express theme song written and performed by Huey Lewis. And yes, it absolutely lives up to the hype.

Recently, Neil Miller and I had a chance to interview director David Gordon Green while he was in town promoting his latest film Snow Angels. Soon, the conversation turned to the entropy of a Neil Miller discussion of film…. Michael Bay.

Director David Gordon Green sat down with us to talk about Snow Angels, his Sundance ’07 hit that is finally getting its theatrical release this weekend. Not only did we discover the lighter side of Snow Angels, but we also got to prod Green about his next film, Pineapple Express.

While I didn’t think David Gordon Green’s film Snow Angels was flawless, it is clear that he made the film for himself and his own artistic sector, and he won’t be hurt or offended if it never cracks the mainstream nugget.

Generally, stoner comedies can be characterized by their inaction, or the lack of motivation that their characters have once they have smoked up all the green. But Pineapple Express seems to be more about getting some action, making it the first stoner action comedy — at least as far as I can recall this early in the morning.

The early trailers featured the infectious jam “Paper Planes”, the theme song is being composed by the legendary Huey Lewis and now we learn that Bone Thugs, Shaquille O’Neal and other 80s favs will be on the Pineapple Express soundtrack. This is amazing!
