Weekly DVD Drinking Game: Date Night
Drinking Games By Kevin Carr on August 17, 2010 | Be the First To CommentIf you’re a fan of NBC’s Thursday night line-up, chances are you’ve had a date night with Steve Carell and Tina Fey. If you want to make a new date night official, you can check out their latest comedy Date Night, available now on DVD and Blu-ray. So join the comedy duo in New York City and get some drinks at the new trendy night spot, Claw.
Join us each week as Rob Hunter takes a look at new DVD releases and gives his highly unqualified opinion as to which titles are worth BUYing, which are better off as RENTals, and which should be AVOIDed at all costs. And remember, these listings and category placements are meant as informational conversation starters only. But you can still tell Hunter how wrong he is in the comment section below. This week sees several good releases, but only one worth buying (and I’m just as surprised as you that it’s an Adult Swim title). But there’s plenty worth a Rental for folks who don’t love foul-mouthed stop-motion comedy, including Date Night, Tapped, Death At a Funeral, Under the Mountain, The Good Heart, and more. See all of this week’s relevant DVD releases after the jump…
Box Office: Only Dragons Are Not Losers This Weekend
Box Office By Neil Miller on April 26, 2010 | Be the First To CommentAs predicted, it was a rather abysmal weekend at the box office. After being edged out slightly last weekend by newcomer Kick-Ass, the Dreamworks Animation pic How to Train Your Dragon returned to the top of the charts with a vengeance this weekend, slicing up both The Losers and the J-Lo led rom-com The Back-Up Plan.
Box Office: Kick-Ass Gets Knocked Around By Dragons
Box Office By John Cairns on April 18, 2010 | Comments (10)Well, when I said 3-D would fall from the top spot at the box office I once again spoke too soon. How to Train Your Dragon has apparently won what proved to be yet another weekend photo-finish.

Box Office: Date Night Hauls in $27 Million, Inches By Clash
Box Office By John Cairns on April 11, 2010 | Comments (3)We had a sense that this was going to be a very tight “Clash” at the top of the box office — and indeed, this weekend’s box office result turned out to be too close to call.
Date Night works because it isn’t really trying too hard. That sounds terrible doesn’t it? But in a way that’s the brilliance of the movie. (Yeah, I’ll be hearing about that choice of words.) Why struggle to emulate the genius misadventures of After Hours when you can aim for the decidedly lighter but still entertaining Adventures In Babysitting?
