Try to pretend like the director’s name doesn’t already have you interested. In this dreamy trip of a short film, a Tennessee-throated young woman applies a magazine perfume sample and finds a stranger in her house who seduces her with movie lines. The two then float through the elements of their date, but nothing gold can stay. The story takes chances and manages to include elements of horror, romance, comedy and, well, just about everything in between. Definitely one of a kind and worth a look. What will it cost? As predicted, it was a rather abysmal weekend at the box office. After being edged out slightly last weekend by newcomer Kick-Ass, the Dreamworks Animation pic How to Train Your Dragon returned to the top of the charts with a vengeance this weekend, slicing up both The Losers and the J-Lo led rom-com The Back-Up Plan.

Well, when I said 3-D would fall from the top spot at the box office I once again spoke too soon. How to Train Your Dragon has apparently won what proved to be yet another weekend photo-finish.

Date Night works because it isn’t really trying too hard. That sounds terrible doesn’t it? But in a way that’s the brilliance of the movie. (Yeah, I’ll be hearing about that choice of words.) Why struggle to emulate the genius misadventures of After Hours when you can aim for the decidedly lighter but still entertaining Adventures In Babysitting?

It’s a light week for movies here in the Magical Studio in the Sky. That doesn’t stop the Fat Guys from being The Runaways and having a sweet Date Night.

We are in for a fairly light weekend as far as new movies are concerned, but the actual box office race promises to be no less interesting, because Clash of the Titans faces a stiff challenge from Date Night.

You can open your eyes now. 2009 is gone, and it’s not coming back. It’s time to move forward, onward and upward, and what better way to start than with the movies we’re most looking forward, onward and upward to?
