Rumor: Joe and Anthony Russo Will Direct ‘Captain America 2′
In Development By Kate Erbland on June 6, 2012 | Be the First To CommentWhen it rains comic book movie news, it positively pours. After being named on the directorial short list (which also reportedly included F. Gary Gray and George Nolfi) for Captain America 2, brothers Joe and Anthony Russo have apparently snagged the gig. Variety report some scant details on their exclusive, telling us that the Community directors and executive producers are “in final negotiations” to direct and that Marvel has not responded with a comment as of yet. The pair have extensive television work under their belts (including also Happy Endings and Arrested Development), along with writing and directing Welcome to Collinwood and the upcoming Ciudad (which comes from the pair’s own graphic novel). The film is set to open on April 4, 2014.
‘Captain America’ Sequel Confirmed for April 4, 2014
Movie News By Neil Miller on April 5, 2012 | Comments (2)Walt Disney Studios have confirmed today via press release that Marvel Studios’ sequel to 2011′s Captain America: The First Avenger will be released on April 4, 2014. The story will pick up right where The Avengers leaves off, with Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) continuing his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D and continuing to try to find his place int he modern world. Several things are interesting about this move. One being that April 4 is very early in the year, taking a line at spring box office rather than competing with other Summer blockbusters. That said, there haven’t been too many 2014 movies really confirmed. Transformers 4 will drop that summer, The Amazing Spider-Man will get its sequel, and Marvel is said to be planning another of its films for that summer — which will most likely be a new property, as Thor and Iron Man will be sequeled in 2013. Hey Marvel, here’s your chance to finally throw that Joe Cornish/Edgar Wright Ant-Man movie onto the schedule. No matter what comes with it, it’s nice to know that Captain America will be coming back for more. No other details have been released and as far as we can tell, no director has been attached to the project, even though several are said to be in the running.
Awesome Non-News: ‘Captain America 2′ Writer Pushing for Peter Dinklage as MODOK
In Development By Nathan Adams on August 29, 2011 | Comments (4)There were a lot of things that I liked about Captain America: The First Avenger, but my biggest disappointment with the film was that we didn’t get nearly enough time spent with Cap battling the Red Skull and his crazy group of science driven terrorists. It felt like 90% of the film was all setup and then we got the action in a 10-minute montage. That’s why I’m super pumped to hear Captain America co-writer Christopher Markus tell Hero Complex that he’s got some crazy, Cap battling science ideas for the sequel. Markus starts off the crazy by saying, “I love MODOK and I think you could make a terrifying movie with MODOK but nobody seems to be on my side at the momentum [sic].” For those of you not comic book savvy, MODOK is one of the most ludicrous villains with a long time publishing history. He’s basically a giant head inside of a metal helmet that has little metal arms and legs dangling off of it. He started off as a guy named George Tarleton who got experimented on by the Advanced Idea Mechanics (or AIM) and turned into a living computer named MODOC (or Mental Organism Designed Only for Computing). Tarleton had other ideas though. Despite the fact that he was designed for computing, that wasn’t exactly what he intended on doing; so he killed his creators, took control of AIM, and renamed himself MODOK (or Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing). Why would a character so ridiculous have a long
